Hello again,

This will be my next build, the 2005 issue of the AT-ST from RotJ...
AT-ST001.JPG

I am still debating how I want to do this...
Should I do another "standard" Star Wars Walker, or a custom "What If" type, possibly based on a German PzKw camo theme?

any thoughts either way?

Thanks

I have to agree with Revell-Fan. A Steampunk version would be nice to see.

SteamPunk just ain't my thing :) I'm still leaning toward a Late war German camo pattern either the red yellow brown stripes or the yellow green brown mottled Hmmmmm

OK! :)

However, what about something WWII-like? Like an AT-ST operated by German soldiers (including some trucks around it and a VW symbol on the front)?

hehehe I was thinking of a scene with a Panzer V and the AT-ST at a cross roads...

That would be cool, then have some Sherman & Churchill tanks hiding ready to fire....

@RF, it would need to be a mercedes logo, the Empire never used the cheap version ;)

LOL! :)

Micah, I think we are on the right track! ;)

The build should be in the style of MaK (MaschinenKrieger) somehow.

I have one question regarding the box art: It shows the filming model (and not the model inside), right? The model inside is the little fellow we all know with the closed eyes, chunky guns and that crude middle toe?

yes RF it's the same little kit, just a different box for the 2005 re release.

Or, instead a Panzer V, a High Command staff car, with... let's say Guderian and/or Rommel with some other guys in it. Like inspecting the new panzerkampfgeher (geher=walker) prototype which might get into production. But I do not know if there's such plastic figures in the right scale.

If I remember the kit size correctly, I think it's about 1/48 scale, so you could use Tamiya figures to convert into Imperial crewmen, not to much of a difference, either! I really liked that kit, it was a fun build. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it :)

I've decided that if "I'm in for a Pence then I'm in for a Pound" with this build. It's not going to be a standard walker, I'm gathering other kits to use as donor kits for various parts, replenishing my supply of plastic stock tubes and sheets, and diorama supplies for the base. Once I've finalized the design I'll list all the donor kits and start photographing everything...

More to come....

I think the photo on the box is the model, not the filming miniature, the visors are closed. the guns are so so and the middel toe is simplified.

and I have made my final decision and finalized parts requisition,

The 1/35th scale PzKfW II from Tamiya will donate it's coppola, guns and crew.
The 1/48th scale Huey Hog from Revell will donate it's rocket pods and twin .50 mounts
SW ATST_1.JPG
The 1/35th tamiya PzKfW V Panther will either donate various detail parts or just be built up later

SW ATST_2.JPG

I kn ow that the ATST is not really 1/35th but 1/48th figures are too small, here is a comparison pic of the ATST's upper hatch and the Coppola from the Panther
SW ATST_3.JPG
as you can see the hatch opening on the ATST is larger than the hatch opening from the Panther...

sooo... the Panzer II sacrifices it's turret to get the coppola to graft onto the ATST
SW ATST_4.JPG

and the coppola ring set on the ATST turretSW ATST_7.JPG

it's not glued yet but this lets y'all see how it's gonna look.

More to come....

Looking good! When I was younger I never used to like "kit-bashing" but over the years I've realised that a good kit-bash can make a indifferent model look great.

I didn't get a chance to finish this post, but I started it just after you asked. Personally, I am so done with the Nazi/Wehrmacht default schemes. It seems like that is the first thing people go to, it is like that saying if people talk long enough, "Hitler' will come into the conversation.

As far as themes, that's up to you. Do a German/Nazi/WWII derivative, and you will have initial "Ooh's, and Aah's", then it will fade into obscurity.

How about the "North Korean War", we're still at war with them, that would open all kinds of opportunities. Vietnam would be an interesting era. One of these trampling through the marshes after the Marsh people who tried so hard to hide there. Be interesting politically, as they were hiding from the U.S. and the Vietcong. Jump up to the gulf wars, then you can add some hover capability, and really go for it. Just ideas.

Okay Z, now ya got my gears going about a "hovertank"... :)

but that will have to be another build for another day, I've already started destroying my donor kits :wtf:
