I had started this, then decided to do "Laura', the other stealth Viper, but a model came out, and with so many discrepancies between the one shown, and the one in the C.G. part off the show, it just got under my skin. I had to put it on the back burner.

So I am doing the Stealthstar, which I had started, almost completed, and lost the file! Here's is where I am now. The Red and Grey one is my interpretation of the solid grey one, which is in a sense a "picture', and cannot be unfolded. In essence, I am converting it to a forma that will allow it to be made into a paper model. Many parts to go. I changed the shape of the wings as what was on that mesh made no sense aerodynamically. :)

I did an early attempt at the Stealthstar, back then, there was little information on the subject and there still just minute details on it. With your renderings, I can make out more details than I had at the time. Keep it up and I will save the illustrations for future references. Thanks for sharing.

I've been working on the engines. The original Mesh had many errors and many artifacts. It took around an hour just co clean it up. I have another hour to go (maybe 2). Here's where I am at now. This model unfolds. I don't move forward till I know the parts unfolds. It's easy to make a mesh if your just making a picture you can flip around. A mesh that can be used for production, either in paper, or metal mold making, well, that does not allow for artifacts and sloppy work. Actually, that is the top of the engine, as the rest is on the bottom, more forward. :)

I think that trying to work with a mesh that is "O.K." is harder than using your own. It saves a lot of time, but by the time your done, it is quite different. I frankly do not understand working in a program that does not allow you to make anything bu fancy pictures. Yes, they ultimately could be in some C.G. type film, but they would still have to be cleaned up, and quite a bit.

I know what you mean ;) . I once tried that with a model which had all corners rounded using some sort of nurbs modeling technique or something like that, just for practising. It was so horrible that I gave up on it. The model itself looked gorgeous though. ;)

I notice that the geometry of your re-build is much, much simpler and cleaner, even though you successfully keep the look and shape of the original. :)

It might be useful to use the side, front, top and bottom views of the complicated model for re-building. :)

In all actuality, the only difference is on the wing, I changed the shape as the one on the mesh would stall at 10 mph, and the bottom surface of the nose is a bit more angular, but it is very slight, and in building it, a gentle radius with a dowel would allow the builder to put it however they wanted. The model actually fits inside the original one. I have all and any views necessary though I work in perspective a lot, which is more difficult, but gives you a the ability to see the model from any angle on a whim. Since I work with Dual 24" monitors, I can extend the windows over both monitors giving a rather large work area. ;)

Sample of the congruous nature of the models so far below:

A Top, Front, and Right side, and some various Perspective shots. My model is inside the original Mesh. They line up virtually identical. I tilted the wing on the left side to show where I changed the line on the top lifting surface. :)TOP1.jpg Front1.jpg Right1.jpg Con1.jpg Con2.jpg Con3.jpg
