hey! great choice!!! one of my favorites. may I suggest some basic tips- cut off the flaps and make your own out of thinner paper, using butt seams instead if a flap to edge join. also scruple up your waste paper from cuts and use it as insulation like support for the inside of parts. nail polish can really bring a shine to metallic parts and windows. you can make a doughy clay like substance from sanded or fie cut paper waste from cuts, with white glue , too make putty seam joins and patches and don't forget the colored pencil or pens for touch ups on seams. if you want lights and sounds, radio shack has memo units and just wire in some leds or flashing bling jewelry connected to computer ribbon wire to the ground and speaker connections for a flicker to the sound for engines, alarms, weapons, what ever. bling and glitter and reflective tape is a great help for lighting and glow in the dark Halloween stuff works too. aluminum foil makes great light boxes. little tube and such can be made from coffee stirrers and straws and bottle caps make great inner supports. if you are paper only guy, layer your tubes from typing paper, gum foil paper and any other thing you can think of, for stuff you cant think of ask Zathros. raven black and silver oxide also are not only great builders, but have the kind of mind that can draw outstep by step instructions and might have stuff that will work for you if you run into a complication while building. Enjoy this great new hobby!

@omegasupremexxx It looks like you are off to a really good start. I think that spaceagent-9 covered (pretty much) everything in the (basic) advice department.
The only other thing that I could add, is one you have finished the Icarus, go ahead and make the Booster module for it as well. That way, you will have the complete set.

I got the Arrow 4 Booster standing by for assembly once the Icarus is assembled. Neat how Icarus is on top of the booster instead of inside it (like the movie version of the Jupiter 2).

Looks like I have to start this thing over. Seems I printed it at the wrong scale and it's made some pieces too small to even work with. The top and bottom will have to be printed on 3 seperate pages and then joined. I'll post more pics as I progress..

Got the first of the engine assemblies on it. Now that I'm caught up on the proper scale version, I can post more updates. Got my eyes on a new printer, and some 11x17 120lb cardstock for future projects.

One thing I've noticed while working on this ship is that improvisation is needed sometimes, especially if some pieces don't fit right. Like with this one, I find myself just chopping off the flaps in order to make something fit better. The rocket nozzles on this ship are good examples of this. I guess something new is learned with every model that's put together. At this point, Icarus is almost finished. I'll post pics when it's done.

As a routine, I always snip off the tabs, and make ones that fit on the inside, gluing on side first. This allows for sharp, clean corners. Nice job. I liked the way this ship looked, and it had a substantial amount of room inside. :)

Thanks.
Thinking about whipping out Pepekura for my next one. I downloaded an SFCIII mod file and converted it to LW using Milkshape. I've always wanted a larger version of this ship but it was originally only available as a FASA miniature. I present the Klingon L-24 "Ever Victorius" class Battleship. She's from the TMP era, and was built as an answer to the Federation's new Excelsior class.klingon-l-24-pepekura.jpg

great job!!! I always liked this ship too! , remember at the time of the movie, man had not yet walked on the moon, the only really well done space movie was 2001, no star treks or star wars, p.o.t.a.'s was THE sci-fi jaundra for big screen theaters for a while there. it was mostly bruce lee and horror movies going on, besides campy comedys and a few great documentaries like ''blue water white death''. so this ship left its mark. also hypersonic test capsules bear a strong resemblance to the Icarus, I wonder how many dirty pawed d*** apes came back in time thru those babys!!! a trick I learned is to cut the tabs and use thinner hand made ones doubled for both sides and butt jointed for a smaller, cleaner seam. it helps when you are letting the glue dry too. again another favorite and great job!

Both are really awesome. I thin the Icarus would make a really nice boat, a real one. It would be easy to make a planing Hull and it would be pretty big, with a lot of deck area to hang out on. :)
