Hello fellow modelers!

For I am the almighty resurrected hobbyist and you shall have no other... yeah whatever I don't have time for all that crap. I got models to build!

Hey all, I'm Mike but I go by "Resurrected Hobbyist". Been a modeler in one form or another one and off for the last last 20 years, really got serious about it like 6 years ago. And now here I am! I actually ran across this forum by accident when I was searching for 40k Templates for scratch building (Yes I mean Patoroch's templates). The man is sickeningly awesome with his templates! So yeah, I ran across this forum, found out that there's more then 5 people in the world who are into this sort of stuff and was like "Okay I need to drop in and say hi!"

Sooo..... yeah. HI!

You can check some of my projects at the following:

Sorry, there was no way I was going to let that "Introduction" title stand. I fear you may have got too many negative responses, when looking at what your building skills wouldn't warrant such a reaction.

With that out of the way, WELCOME!

We are always happy to have well experienced modelers and with have a Warhammer40K thread that's pretty awesome. Nice Blog, by the way, I don't do the Facebook thing, I have an account, but haven't signed into it in over a year.

Detailed build threads are the heart of this forum. Pictures have to be uploaded directly, we don't allow "Photo Hosting" services, or links to pictures/photos, as then tend to go away and all that is left is a long diatribe without any pictures.

Welcome to Zealot, Read the Rules and Policies carefully. We have a very level playing field here. Much sharing, and good will. Welcome to Zealot. :)

Hello and welcome to Zealot. Nice introduction. I like your blog and videos. You have come to the right place for all things WarHammer 40K. If you have not already, you will find that there are many members here who are into WH40K. I hope that you enjoy yourself here.
If you have any questions, comments, concerns, need help or advice. Please feel free to ask and we will do what we can to help you (or at least point you in the right direction).
Once again, welcome aboard. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

one question I do have: Is there a section that has like a beginners guide to paper crafting? I looked under Tips and Tutorials and while the information there is useful, it's very scatter brained and addresses specific situations rather then a "Here is the basics and why it's the basics" kind of thing.

What exactly are you looking for?
Pretty much looking for Paper/card board crafting 101. I mean I've seen maybe 2 other people actually go into any kind of details about how they go about building a cardboard/paper model and I've learned from the information that they provided, but unlike say model building where I can just go to YouTube and type "Model building tutorial for [insert type of model]" I haven't had much luck in finding a 'Here is the basics for dealing with paper/cardboard/chip wood' sort of tutorial.

I use 67lb. stock for thinner stuff, and mostly 110 card stock for Ship hulls, spacecraft, anything that needs strength. Building inside formers is a must to maintain shape. If you could tell me a kind of model you want to build, I am sure I could find you one to start with and advise you on how to go along. I know of some really nice cars, for a start, spacecraft, etc.. :)

Howdy RH, Welcome to Zealot! You certainly start off with a bang...still trying to catch up with you...(sort of started with the post and worked backwards)! I like the "Idea" of a Paper/card board crafting 101" but there is not a specific thread "sticky" for that...I'm not sure there really could be, as every type of situation and every type of model determines in what way you deal with the material. You could do a ...this is how you cut/fold/score etc. type thing and call it Card Craft Part 101, Part 1 and then go on to advanced techniques... but with properly done build threads they are done for you and cover way more material than we few could do on our own...and I see you have already added to it, with http://www.zealot.com/threads/f-103-excalibur-wing-commander.179528/ well done!!

Honestly, just Zathros' mention of using different stocks based on what part of the model is being built made a difference.

Yep...That's the kind of thing that you just pick up along the way...and depending on the circumstance! ;)

If your printer uses Pigment Ink, you can use a damp sponged, front the backside, to water form some parts, to get a multi radii, compound bulge. Dan B. King did the "Discovery" spaceship model from 2001: A Space Odyssey, by UHU, and water formed the front ball, it came out amazing!! :)

Dan's model, around 4 feet long, I believe.

What is water forming?

Let me show you a picture that will explain it all. This cannot be done with Dye based Ink printers, as the ink will run. If you paint your models, then the world is yours!!! I suggested this technique as I used it it making ship models, and blisters for planes, etc. Dan really took off with it and did probably the most noticeable compounded ball ever made out of paper. :)

Here's the thread post showing what he did: http://www.zealot.com/threads/2001-aso-ussc-discovery-one.172205/page-9

"Dan": "I lightly dampened the back of the tacked together ring structure with a bit of water, applied with a damp cloth. This was then placed into the half of the plastic ball shell. The toy ball was then placed into plastic shell and pressed down with force."
