Renewable resources, but only if they are renewed! :)

Those parts look like you cast them, then machined them, beautiful, excellent craftsmanship. Also, excellent realization of these parts in Rhino!! ;)

Thanks Zathros, I am gettin to the edge of how small parts I can do with paper:). Will see how small can I get :)

@bigpetr Your work is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I have to completely agree with @zathros with how professional the parts that you have made (and are making) look.
I have to say that I am slightly envious. Your work is professional and you have taken this model to the next level. I am watching this thread very closely!!

Hello everyone, I am back on this X-wing after summer modeling hiatus with full power:).
I made new engines template with more shape details. Just need to texture them so I can finaly build something:

I also revisited details to be as on X-wing RED2 (other X-wings has different details, witch are accurately presented on current textures) :

Are you doing the texturing in Rhino? I do it by making the texture it's own surface, then add Textures, Transparencies, Bumps, etc. from the Materials editor. You can do a lot with Rhino. Sometimes I have the parts stacked a quarter inch above each other and on the top view it looks like one piece, but in Perspective, it looks like a city or circuit board. You illustrations show how well Rhino can work for making very detailed Instructions, but it is a lot of work, but fun when you are in the groove. :)

I don't do texturing in Rhino. But I am experimenting with it, trying to find workflow that would suits me. I feel I have better control over the resolution and texture quality and more creative freedom in 2d graphic editor.

In Rhino I hint important details with curves on surfaces, unrol surfaces with this curves, sometimes draw auxiliary grid if needed (red lines on last image) and export it to vector editor with separate layers (oulines, paneling, grids, instructions, texts, etc). Then export vecor image as bitmap, draw texture in bitmap editor, import texture to vector image and clip it with original vector outlines (this is maybe redundant step but I like to have it in vector image). I think this is quite standard workflow. I can elaborate on it with more detailes if somebody is interested.

Rhino is excelent for instructions with its tools for making technical drawing from models.

I love instruction images by Julius perdana. He uses textured model for that and it looks cool:). I would like to know his worflow for texturing (eventhou he does not use Rhino). But I am lazy and do not want to waste time on placing textures on 3d model to use it for this purpose;).

When I have done textures in Rhino, I do it in an Orthgonic view, relative to the Top, Side, Front, and use the "Free Form Control points" to outline the area I want to texture. I thin split that curve with a line and separate the two pieces high enlarged (magnified) and put an imperceptible curve, either a straight line or curve, to follow the contour. That makes the piece able to be "Patched, or "Run 2 Rails" whichever makes the best surface. Both then will unfold flat. When making the parts, that piece can be textured, and using the transparency feature, and duplicating the surface, multiple layers can be stacked, but when looked from the Top View, it looks like one part. I have Photoshop CS3 and CS5, but I find it easier to just do it in Rhino, though a better job could be done with Photoshop, I'm sure. ;)

Interesting technique Zathros, thanks for the tip.thumbsup I will definitely try it. I love to stay in Rhino as much as possible:).

Me too. I love the "Squish" as opposed to "Smash" .rhp. If you don't have it, let me know in a P.M. . ;)
