    Wal-Mart finds

A long time ago (25 years now) I modeled the late 70's early 80's of the Chessie system. I went to Barr yard in Chicago Dec 79 and photographed everything (press credentials). They even let me in a few locos. I was making actual models of motive and cars including misaligned lettering and rust...

    I Need An Estimate

If I do have pics that show it I do not know where they might be as I have been out of the hobby since 1984. The big club I was a member of certainly would not allow such a thing. I did it on my 12X16 home layout. For one to make sure my cars ran perfect at the club. Just imagine a straight 3...

    I Need An Estimate

First, who has flex at under $3.00 per 36inches????? Flex is not harder it is actually easier. It just seems harder. Too many guys are telling you the same thing so without having to pay for the upgrade after the fact you would be well to take their advise. IMO Another little note on flex for...

    Stripping?

Again, it has been some time but it seems that the brake fluid was best suited to Atlas plastic and it dried out the Athearn stuff too much but that long ago I can be mistaken. I am even surprised I remember any aspect. I also remember that when drying painted wooden cabooses in the oven a...

    Stripping?

It has been 25 years for me but I can swear we used brake fluid on plastic. It worked like laquer thinner does on brass. Please do not dip a shell in this stuff but instead try it on something of no value and, of course, use plastci gloves. Wulfmann

NOOB; On another layout along time ago.

Well, more great info and I thank you all, very cool stuff. I might have to build a test track layout at least and knowing me it will have to be completely detailed. I have pulled down some parts boxes that may not have seen light for 20 years. I found two Sagami flat cans (both 1833) TRO...

I admit, CRed, this road has a nice scheme. Did you buy one of those unGodly expensive SD-38-2s???? Only 15 made and boy they were nice but wow. I would not run something that collectable. Here is the SD-9 now at my house enjoying a Florida winter. Notice the chipped paint on the top of the...

Well this is all fascinating stuff. I am a freeware modder for CFS3 so am not afriad (anymore) of new tech things. I basically get the idea the open frame motor should be trashed in the 3 truck shay but that is not big deal. I still have a couple extra can motors in my spare parts So My brand...

Can DCC be added to my oldy Atlas and or brass diesels or even my 3 truck shay hey? I assume this requires a new power pack for DCC. I still have the two we built in 82 when the only way you got really good packs was to make them. Most pulsed back then (For the instant 40MPH open frame...

We had very nice PFM steam sound back then but the Diesel was crappy. What is DCC and what sound options are there now for steam and diesel. And, I am still curious why I could buy those two above diesels so cheap on eBay. Are prices down right now or is that a normal all year price...

NOOB; On another layout along time ago.

First post. Have been out of the hobby since 1984 and am just curious what has been happening as I wait for SHIV to be released and I can start killing Japs in a Gato class USN Submarine. I joined the Lauderdale Shore Line in 1977 and quickly found my calling with a Pasche air brush. Back then...
