    What's your problem?!

Trackwork. I hate laying track. I lose interest when it comes to laying track, its more of a job than a hobby. But once it's done and I can get back to scenery, I'm happy. Right now, I'm putting off trackwork on my new layout. At least it lets me devote tons of time to getting the...

    Coal To Liquids

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fischer-Tropsch It's real, and like Mountain Man said, it's been done on a massive scale, so it's 100% viable. However, it isn't cheap, either. I want to say it's in the neighborhood of $75 a barrel once the plant is up and running, but it's been so long since I...

    Alternatives to soldering track

I'm really having a rough time getting my flextrack soldered together. If the connection is solid, it looks aweful, and runs worse. Are there any conductive adhesives that can be used? Is there any snaptrack that comes without a roadbed?

    An Age-Old Railroaders Problem

Only counting my serviceable equipment, I've got 3 locomotives and 9 freight cars. It seems that the 'ratio of locomania' is consistent! I plan on buying 6 hoppers, 3 tank cars, and about 6 double-stacks on a few weeks (Once I've got tracks on my module), which will bring me up to a more...

    Trucklovers Walthers Cornerstone Builds

I'll have to check out that re-railers building. Im really pleased with Valley Cement. It goes together quickly and easily and the whole complex looks cool. Valley Cement can give a lot of operational interest, too. Cement plants take in enormous amounts of fuel, including waste fuels such...

    Trucklovers Walthers Cornerstone Builds

Ed Acosta; I have that building too. I think it's called Redwing milling. I changed it around a bit and it's part of a cement plant on my layout-in-progress. I believe that Red X cement is included in Valley Cement. I used Valley Cement for parts of my cement plant, and it has all those...

Where are the Great Young Model Railroaders?

I'm 22. Between work, work, work, graduate school, work, and work, I don't have much free time. The free time I do have is split between my girlfriend, videogames, and my model railroad. I think young people just don't have as much free time and money as older folks.

    Bachmann diesels...good deal?

I have a Bachmann GE 70 tonner, Baldwin RF16, and GP38-2. Got them all for 40 or less a piece, DCC included. They run really well and seem to be pretty well made to me. The level of detail, while not superb, is acceptable (on the diesels, at least- I was disappointed by their 4-4-0). There...

    2x8 HO layout

About a year ago, I started a small layout, but ended up moving before I could make any real progress on it. I plan on starting again, and want to start with a yard (HO scale). I don't have a lot of space, so ideally, the yard will be about 2x8. I will expand the railroad, piece by piece, in...

    German Layout

Nice site, Dave. I've always wanted to model a German railroad, especially since there are so many interesting and unique german buildings offered by Preiser, Faller, etc. Alas, I don't have the time, space, or money to do so, so I'll be living vicariously through your progress until the day...

some new pics of the pike

I like it, especially that cement/brick industry behind the bridge. CNJ, could you go a little more in depth on how to make brick look like that?

    HO Scale 80's Mustang

Since my hobbies include building a HO scale layout and working on my 1989 Mustang, I was pretty pumped when I saw this: I know, the year's not right (the HO scale mustang looks like a 79 or an 82) but it's close enough! However, for the life of me, I can't find one for sale, in fact, I...

    Help name that layout!

A slight thread hijack, but.. It's interesting to see that you've mentioned Kingston, NY. I'm in Catskill, just a few towns up the river! Have you posted any pictures of your Kingsport & Western? I'd love to see them.

Help me with a layout brainstorm!

Good point, I'll be including some form of lift off back there that would allow me to reach the far back, as well as that long tunnel. I also might cut that double spur up there to a single spur to reduce the need to access the far corner. Can someone refer me to an interesting industrial yard...
