    Titanic For Dummies Thread

Naming a modern ship Titanic, or for that matter Andrea Doria or Lusitania seem to me to be to be issuing a giant challange to hubris. I don't think I'm superstitious but it just seems wrong. Even with nearly a 100 years gone by its way too soon. I didn't notice anything scanning the links...

Bengt, I'll experiment with your settings. I know the program does some amazing things as you've illustrated. Thanks. Phil

Art Decko, I've now have read again in another paper model forum what Bengt had suggested about using a photo matte paper for inkjet printers. It seems to have the benefits of much crisper, clearer prints of the photo paper and the ability to fold and glue of regular card stock. I'll give...

Bengt, I will have to give the matte photo paper a try. With the moire problems I guess I have to re-learn the photoshop step one glausian blur, step two unmask sharpen or variations thereof to get rid of the original offset print dot pattern which would be scanned. Thanks for the tip. Phil

Bengt, You said: "If I ever get a bigger scanner, I will do several colour tests of my re-colored sheets, on the actual A3 heavy-duty photo ink jet paper that I have selected. I usually use a very good, matte photo paper (230 g/m2 paper weight), that is designed to work well with...

Bengt, I guess I knew it would be too good to be true to have a model just fade into a correct shade of colors but a lazy man can dream. Speaking of a lazy man, you saved this lazy man lots of time with all the links you supplied. Good stuff!. Thanks for all the links and particularly paint...

You know, I just had another thought. I'll just build the Fly-Model Titanic as is with the colors. 20 or so years from now, when I finally get it done, people will be marvelling at the color accuracy of the model little realizing that the colors faded over the time it took me to put it...

Bengt, I think you've made a very good observation about the de-saturation of the colors of the Fly-Model Titanic. Looking at my only other resource, a discount bargin bin book by Leo Marriot named "Titanic," your renderings on color look much closer to the color illustrations in this book than...

John John, That's a good question. I had to go back and look at the box again and try to figure out where it was I had ordered everything from. I know I waited several months to try to order it from a USA address since my credit card and mailing address for that card is there. After waiting...

John John, I appreciated reading of your connnections with the Titanic. I'm sure it makes you feel a whole lot closer to your subject living and having lived so close to where Titanic's short lived history centered around. I became much more interested in the Titanic after the death of an...

Le Courbet French battle cruiser from Modelik

MikeBer, I am enjoying your build. Also I am very interested in the tools, supplies and methods you are employing to use those tools and supplies. Our craft supplies here all come out of South Africa and of course are just as expensive if not more so. Good job so far! Phil

Titanic model on eBay - hurry!

Bengt, Thank you for your report on the laser-cut railings. Its just the information I need. Concerning scanning: I usually scan a model before I make it as a contingency against ruining a part and having no back up. I've never had much success matching color even though I do have a...

Titanic model on eBay - hurry!

John John, Bengt and others, I went to the GPM website to look at the Fly Model Titanic accessories. I noticed both card railings as well as photo etched railings. Does the card railing set contain enough material to do the entire ship or does one need the photo etch stuff as well? Also I...

Johnny, Thankyou for taking the time to show off your new collection of models. It is almost like being at the store, being allowed to strip off the plastic wrap and look inside (which they never allow you to do at the store). I also value your opinions on the various models. I seem to...

    Help deciding which Titanic

I thank Geraldo for bringing up this topic of Titanic models. I've been waiting for someone to bring out a 1/200 or 1/250 scale model of the Titanic. Not that I am fussy or anything but I also want the model to have a full hull. Does anyone know if anything like this is coming out in the...
