    What makes a layout "realistic"?

Always visit largest Train Exhibition in NH every November[15th annual; upcoming in 4 weeks]. It's run by Bedford[NH]Boomers HO Modular Club. Modules are built by individual members and some are SUPER Craftsmen! Will always remember their trackside tenement scene module: Lady hanging clothes...

    Pearl Harbor- forget or remeber?

Was 4 1/2 when Pearl Harbor was attacked. Learned about it when I was older. But clearly remember my oldest brother coming home on leave in 1945. He was to ship to Germany. When they surrendered, his unit was re-scheduled for the big attack on Japanese mainland. On actual day he was to...

    Bus Wire Configuration

If you're talking about physical separation along buss wiring run under layout and not total length[another issue; per DCC system manufacturer's recommendations]; was in modular club and we used 12 ga. solid buss wires: one black; one white. We had 6" separation, with holes drilled horizontally...

    Turnout question [in HO]

Has anyone ever heard of a modeler modifying Peco Streamline HO Code 100 turnouts into CLOSED FROG units? Am interested in doing this and may have to wing it on my own. Thanks in advance for any advice. TTFN.....:)

    tortoise install...

You might consider an above-ground installation, with the machine hidden in a structure of some sort[w/air holes in back for cooling]. Many modelers do this, as they find it easier to accomplish and access for any later servicing is much simpler. TTFN....

    Feeder lines

MAX: Is there a Lowes, Radio Shack or any other electronics store near you? They would certainly have small gauge feeder wire in stock. TTFN.....

Need advice on how to scratch build

You might also consider getting a self-healing cutting mat; they're very handy and usually available from local crafts stores. If there's a Michaels near you; try them or look in your phone book yellow pages for crafts stores. TTFN.....

Transition Era in NE/ Shelf Layout/Sergent/W/A throttle

HI FOLKS: Have not been here for some time! Recent pc crash didn't help things; was off-line many months. Anyway, what's posted above is basically my present plan; drastically simplified, of course. Poised to start 18" x 12 1/2' x 52" elev. shelf layout stage one construction any day now. My...

    Comment/ Observation/ Request

HI FOLKS: Am an older member; absent for quite a while [ mrr'ing on back-burner due to health problems and then later, joined other forums ]. Really do LIKE the revised Forum format and appearence! Now, somewhat sadly, have spare room to finally put up HO a-t-r home branchline layout [because...

    FASCINATING mrr-related web site found!

HI FOLKS: Go to: www.2guyzandsumtrains.com Was corrected by a modeler, after posting it elsewhere. He informed me that t'was NOT a web site; it was a BLOG[whatever THAT is!]! There's a mind-boggling amount of just plain useful, practical How-To stuff there and LOTS of pictures, too; could...

    Status on Brakie?

Has anyone here heard how Larry is doing? The last word we got over on RRF is that a member received private e-mail from his daughter, stating that he had a heart attack and was hospitalized. That was several days ago and nothing since. Very concerned and if anyone has an update, please post...

Looking for an unusual layout industry?

HI ALL AND HAPPY NEW YEAR! Just thought I'd mention one of my favorite unique industries to consider: Fire truck repair and restoration facility. Spur runs past suitable building at rear[if desired, spur could split and branch enter building with large roll-up door]. Track has an end-ramp so...
