    Hydrocal - pros and cons

BD, Sure, I'll do that. It would be useful to know as I've only worked with pink fibreglass insulation in my home and hadn't even seen the rigid stuff until I went looking at Home Depot. Not much of a selection there, though. -Dave

    Hydrocal - pros and cons

Duckman, looking forward to the info about making molds. I've seen a couple of websites that use silicone for molds. I hear you about having sound benchwork as a prerequisite. I'm sure that's not a problem as my benchwork is using 3X3 L-girders, 3X1 joists spaced 14" o.c and 2X2 legs on...

    Attention: Toronto, Ontario Model Railroaders...

Too bad I don't have anything to give this time around but if it's successful and the library is interested in doing it again next year, I'd be interested in lending a hand or whatever. I'm just starting out so I don't have much in the way of an inventory yet. -Dave

    Hydrocal - pros and cons

I was checking C.C.Crow's website again as he has an excellent reproduction of a NP Roundhouse Circa 1912. All hydrocal. He is recommending 3/4" ply as a base for this roundhouse! I may have to go ply in spots and use foam mostly for scenery. -Dave

    Hydrocal - pros and cons

Chris, I'm in Aurora, couple km's up the 404 from you. Does Brian make what, rock molds and such? Is Hydrocal breakable or pretty solid? Do you use Hydrocal for building structures or just accessories, street debris, trackside stuff like barrels and tires, etc. or just for scenery like...

    Hydrocal - pros and cons

Gary, Yeah, I was looking at C.C. Crow's stuff on his website and he makes these extraordinary brick walls, very realistic, among other things. I thought if I had a large manufacturing area, lots of old buildings, walls, etc., that the weight could add up. Plus, if hydrocall is a great...

    thanks to the gauge`ers:but

Ausien, I don't like to be the one to state the obvious, but I manage a software company call center team for a very large software company and we get an alarming number of support calls for companies that do not have current backups of their data and risk considerable losses. So I...

    Hydrocal - pros and cons

I'm building my first HO layout and I'm leaning towards a subroadbed of 2" foam over 1X3 joists at 12" o.c., all sittin on 3X3 L-girders. 1) Will structures using hydrocal walls be a problem because of weight? 2) After carving up the foam for scenery, if I finish the look with hydrocal for...

Foam and Under Table Switch Machines

Explanation of my post above: Basically the pictures show that the builder has traced an outline of the top or lip of the switch machine. They then used a rotary mini tool and routed inside the traced outline to a very shallow depth, the same as the thickness of the top part of the switch...

    Tim Hortons

Oh, boy. I'm sorry, Will. Actually, with 4 posts to my credit on this forum, I'm surprised I can tie my own shoes. Yup, I told my wife about the show in Midland in May. We're going to up there for that so I'll be sure to ring you up at the Muskoka Model RR table. Did you have a working rr...

    Tim Hortons

Excellent, Will. I never thought I'd see it. I bet it's a favorite at the model train shows. I was at the show in Barrie over the weekend. I saw Orangeville and Barrie and Midland modellers. -Dave

Time to call it a day.

I hope you take some time to rest and take your mind off it. Then if by chance you still feel that you want to pursue the hobby, you will feel refreshed and ready to go. You could always purchase one of those computer train simulator games that are very realistic. That way you could have the...

Foam and Under Table Switch Machines

I found this. I don't know if the Atlas machine is different than Tortoise but check out this link. I had to join this site, it was free, in order to see the pictures. http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292157735 Maybe that will help. -Dave

    Tim Hortons

Tim Hortons, LOL! Always a lineup in my neck of the woods, all day every day. I wonder if there are Tim's decals around. You would have to have a neon sign.
