    Clean That Track !!!!

Just to be differant, I haven't cleaned my track for almost 4 months, and providing I don't spill paint on it or something I don't intend on cleaning it this year. I use Digitrax DCC, sound decoders, lighted coaches etc. etc. all works great.

    Has anyone done it?

I don't personally use a computer, but I know a few people just do some shunting (switching) in the yard while the rest of the layout runs itself! JMRI can be a bit limited for controlling the layout, try Train Controller - www.friewald.com - everyone I know says it's the best on the market...

    + and - decoder connections

Check out the wiring before fitting the decoder, the motor pole that was connected to the right rail should take the orange lead, and likewise the pole that was connected to the left rail takes the grey lead. Of course there's always the occassional loco that want's to be differant and not...

    Decoder Squeal

By the sound of it the decoder was probably faulty from new, if so you might be able to get it replaced, depending on the manufacturer and warranty. There could have been a stray wire or blob of solder on the first install, unfortunately it's too late to check that now (hindsight is a wonderful...

    Lenz Wireless DCC

I haven't used it personally, but from all accounts it's a very basic form of wireless control. From what I've heard CVP is the best of the wireless, although my Digitrax radio takes some beating IMO.

Do all DCC systems do this?

This is a common 'problem' with most DCC systems, seems that manufacturers think that you'll simply select one loco on your throttle and won't change to another untill you've stopped the first. Get loco 1 running, change to loco 2 and it runs of at the same speed and direction as loco 1, a quick...

    Peco Electrofrogs

Hey, it's my opinion of the things. Which you appear to have forgotten I am entitled to! If you like them, good for you, personally well, you already know what I think of them.

    Peco Electrofrogs

I just posted on a similar topic at another forum, insulfrog vs electrofrog. Personally I don't consider insulfrogs to be worth scrap price. Big lumps of plastic pretending to be rail have a tendancy to make the track dirty, so along with having that section of insulated 'rail' you also have to...

    Peco Electrofrogs

The answer is actually that both are correct! The Peco turnouts will work fine straight from the box, but are more reliable with the modifications. Try both and see and decide which you prefer.

    Ready to take the plunge

Here's a slightly more up to date comparison chart for you - http://www.p4me.net/dcccc/systems.html It was created by modellers not retailers so isn't biased toward one brand like most such tables are. Just to clarify on what feed back is. Feedback allows devices such as a stationary decoder...

    DCC decision time

The Super Chief holds 120 active addresses, compared to the Zephyrs' 10 (although rumour has it it can actually run 12!) For more on DCC system comparisons have a look at http://www.p4me.net/dcccc/systems.html

Digitrax Super Chief vs NCE Power Pro

Digitrax can be upgraded just the same as an NCE system.

    Beyer Garratts?

Thanks David, it's a certain Mr J. that's the main problem though!

    Beyer Garratts?

There's some good garratt pic's here, including the K class which is claimed to be the worlds first garratt.
