    October, we have a winner

Congrats Dan on a very well deserved win for such a superb bit of modeling. Frankly, mine had nothing like the detail (or effort) you must have put into yours. All the others had something of interest to me that warrants a big thank you to all of you for posting your pics. :thumb: :thumb...

    Everyone "officially" Welcome Spitfire

Congratulations on the promotion Val, good to see we'll still be in good hands. By the way, I had no idea you were such a massochist! :D . Oh dear! I think I'll get some of my warped humour posts edited out :( (It's a good job you already know my humour is well intentioned ;) ) Errol

Why is Athearn not in the new Walthers Catalog?

Let's hear it for capitalism :curse: , in the end it's the consumer who suffers! Sounds like Horizon wants to corner the market. When I see this sort of thing happening I tend to stop buying their stuff. What is this world coming to? :( Errol

    Update photos of the ACT

Gee Mike, having seen the variety of projects on your layout and the precision with which you've built it, I wouldn't even dream of suggesting any form of constructive criticism. How to you find the time to make such a good job of such a massive undertaking? :D You even chose the right area...

    Opinion on voting choices

I'll drink to that Don :thumb: There is always something of interest in each entry and the more entries submitted the more ideas get spread around. I just hope most members realise this is NOT the sort of competition in magazines to find "Modeller Of The Year". Come on guys lets just...

    Oct 05 Contest, scenery

Hi Tyson, yes, I'm alive and fit as a fiddle (I think). The photo is a small HO/HOn3 diorama. I've given up trying to build layouts, I have neither the space or the patience to make anything like as good as the ones depicted here in The Gauge. I seem to get so far then either loose interest...

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part I

Glad your wife enjoys something in the same scale as you, mine has her mind set on 1/12th scale stuff! (Now what kind of intelligence is that?) Even the G scale stuff I have doesn't go with her things! Errol

    Cardboard Hopper

I'm truly fascinated with the way your model is turning out. So far you're making an excellent job of it. I've never been averse to using cardstock as a building material and you are proving why it's such a versatile material. I've tried five times to build rolling stock and am resigned to...

    Oct 05 Contest, scenery

I just wish I could create hardwood trees as good as the ones in the previous photos! As it is I'm stuck with conifers. Mind you, I'm sort of partial to the high country thing :) . Here's the only photo I have of my models worth showing to others. Does the water tower count as a...

    Newbe with questions

Just a thought, perhaps your drugstore may have very fine hypodermic needles (blind or sharp) which would be close enough to the diameter you need. As a bonus, they are also great for making your own 'oil can nozzle' for rolling stock/loco lubrication. Errol

    Polly Scale gone bad???

Eagle & Gary, I found that the thinner Floquil uses (the suff with the stong odour) is actually Xylene, an organic solvent. It is also sold in bulk by auto paint stores for cleaning sprayguns and professional painters use it for cleaning brushes which have been used to apply oil based paint...

    Pipe loads?

Straws work OK Yes Mike straws do look OK in N or HO. It just so happens I used several three days ago and painted them concrete. The small diameter pipes are straws and the larger ones are brass tubing to give a bit of weight to this HOn3 D&RGW pipe gondola. Here's a photo of what they...

Best Polly Scale # to match D&RGW "Grande Gold/MOW yellow"?

    Ceresota Flour N-Scale

You have taste Jim Man oh man Jim, that's a real gem. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Everything about it radiates the charm of a slower pace of life that we seem to have lost. I hope you don't mind sir, but I filed it all for my future reference and danke, danke, danke for the drawing too...
