    Coupler solution

Hi all - I have run into a similar situation with horn and Knuckle coupers on low quality rolling stock. Was going to convert the horn to knuckle but noticed that the rolling stock I have from 23 years back do not allow access to the coupler without doing damage, unless I replace the entire...

    Woodland scenics rock molds!!! Wow!

There is aluminum foil that has one side non-stick coating is what i buy in any super market. First I roll wrinkle the aluminum foil up into a ball, then open it up, and do a little shaping on the aluminum to where it looks like what i like. With the non-stick (usually the dull side) side up I...

    G.E.C's layout pictures

G.E.C., I commuted in to the city (MTA New Haven), and observed the catenary and insulators. What I noticed was the construct of the supports and noted the insulators are tiny and round. Almost reminded me of a sewing maching bobin (excuse my spelling). But what I was thinking is cutting the...

Just a simple recommendation, try aluminum foil in making rocks. It works great too.

    Distance between parallel tracks?

:) Hey Prodigy, I like the picture, but if you try keeping your track 2" on curves you may encounter issues with the 50' freight cars and definitely with the 90' passenager cars. I will not go any closer then 2 1/2" on curvers, do not like when things go bump on the layout.

    G.E.C's layout pictures

G.E.C. was just thinking, (try not to do it to much, usually cost me something whether money or more work) would it be worth a shot at taking the structural plastic steel, and scratch building the caternary supports, and then shaping syroform or sponges into the insulators, and getting some...

Miles, really like that plan. Some day I will have the rooms to go big layout, just have a 4' 8" problem (wife). Looking forward to seeing more.

G.E.C. great pictures and good looking layout. I am really wondering how you will setup the catenary wires and what you will use. Great work. Jeff

Building the RK&M III: The Mountain

Hi Tom, Really enjoying following your progress. Learning some good stuff. FYI, I have started my urban layout, since I do not have a digital camera, I am taking pictures as I go, and will have them made to digital to post for the group. Take care, Jeff

    Distance between parallel tracks?

Hi Steve, I use snap track and 36" flextrack. In response to: Q. 1. How much distance from the center line of one track to the center line of the other, that parallels it, should I plan? Straight runs I will go 2" Curve 18" and 22" radius 2 1/2" if I am running passenager cars 90' then go 2...

    Track Laying

Hi Joe, I am far from being a pro, as compared to the people on the board, but in my layout I did not use anything. I initially laid my track on the table, experiment to see if the sounds reflecting from the table was more then the engines being used (the noise level was low). After laying the...

    Proto vs Athearn

Hey, I had done some research on Atlas, Athearn and Life-lik what I found was: Life-lik was recently obtained by Walther's. Life-lik had some issues but from all I have heard Walther's is attempting to improve the customer service. As for the Proto 2000, Athearn and Atlas: - Athearn and Proto...
