    Decoder Amperage Ratings

The vendor I bought from, First Hobby, advised particular decoders based on Digitrax recommendations. I had a couple of choices, and went for the decoders with a 1/4 amp higher rating, and with more functions. As these decoders are specified by Digitrax for the particular locos, I misdoubt...

First, a question: had been planning to use foam over plywood, but after reading a thread here, am a bit concerned about fire possibilities. Any suggestions for an alternative surfacing over the ply? It's probably in a thread I've not yet found. Lotta info here. Well, anyway, still under...

    Decoder Amperage Ratings

Well, since my locos have yet to arrive, I went ahead and bought the higher amperage rated decoders, where applicable. I guess the added power, and extra functions will in the long run be worth it. Anyway, that's done, and I'm still under budget! :)

    Decoder Amperage Ratings

I am ready to buy decoders for my locos, from Firsthobby.com. However, I note that Digitrax decoders applicable have differing amperage ratings, 1 Amp and 1 1/4 Amp. As the price difference is about $15, my question is: would the extra quarter amp be worth the extra $15? It seems to me...

    Possible new source for engines?

OK: I'll buy the crane and car so soon as I log off here. The picture looked good, I just needed some sort of clue of what I was buying. Now you've given me that clue, and it's good enough. And I'll ask for a catalog. I need a couple linear feet of various catalogs. Man, this forum is a...

    Dating rolling stock

Thank you very much, Nacho man. I'm still feeling my way around the forum, and don't yet know where things are. And while searching, one must use the absolutely correct keyword. When that's for a thread the name of which you do not know, or for terminology you don't know, it can be confusing...

Sorry about the format. I have no idea what happened. Everything shrunk to the left, a thin line. Never have seen this on any web site before.

    Dating rolling stock

sure this is a problem for many newbies, such as myself [/LIS[LIST] T]. Where can one find the information to place the correct style of rolling stock for an era modeled? The manufacturers and distributors I've seen thus far rarely inform as to when a particular car was used, though a few...

Well, I bought a Digitrax Zephyr from http://www.firsthobby.com/store1/default.asp Can't recall who in this forum suggested them, but he was right: best price I could find out there, $160. Am in contact with First Hobby concerning the correct decoders, which will soon be purchased. Now...

    Possible new source for engines?

Well, I was going to buy a crane car and support/equipment car, but they just don't tell you anything, not even a brand name. Only what scale it is, and that's all. I cannot just throw $37 at someone and hope it's quality. If they would provide some information, I'd think it quite possible...

    Possible new source for engines?

Never heard of these folks, but wish I had. Could have saved a fair bit of money. The web site is somewhat irritating, as no information is given, not even the gauge, on the items I checked at least, until one adds an item to the shopping cart. Certainly however, this is a site to book mark...

    decals

I'm new to this hobby, but have heard of something called Solvaset. Would this be useful in removing decals? I would like to remove decals from several newly bought locomotives, and of course cannot soak an electric motor. As for the eraser: just any old soft eraser, or maybe an artist's...

    OK, Iv'e got the pine-sol

Would this technique work for removing decals? As an example, I've bought a couple of locos which were only available with line decals which will not be appropriate for the layout I am beginning. I wish to remove and replace, them, and am searching for a good way. I read that something called...

    Jackpot! (logging info sites)

Now, that Lombard log hauler is one fascinating piece of equipment! Being born into a logging family, I know first hand of loggers' ingenuity, yet never heard of anything like that. But, one look and we can see just how reasonable, even obvious, it is. That's just neat. Thanks.

Locking casters, eh? Now, that's a good idea. I'd have to lighten up the construction though. 1" ply and 4X4s would be pretty heavy to move around. And pull the carpet, lay linoleum.... Well, since the room won't be used for anything but sleeping and bookshelves, maybe I could permanently...
