Building a Canadian wooden grain elevator.

Great looking model. I opted for a set of the Walthers Cornerstone prairie elevator, which is quite similar to your model. I used to visit relatives in the Rose Valley, Naicam, Nipiwan areas. That was a long time ago when the small farm was still in existance.

    CNR N5-d

CN Decals What you need is MicroScale Decal # 87-1019 which is the sheet for steam engines from 1931 to 1960. http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m620/northern10/CN%20Roster%20Additions/004.jpg I have the same engine, it has your basic black with white highlites, along the running board.

    recommended HO online suppliers

The only on-line model railroad vendor I deal with is MB Klien http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/ Have had numerous transactions with them. Great prices and reasonable shipping and handling charges. Why would anyone recommend someone who they have not shopped with?

The old 32 to 40 foot wood and steel reefers

Quite the opposite. The wood cars had a higher insulation rating than the steel cars. Wooden cars did require higher maintenance though.

    A Time to Spend

All good engines, note with the Proto engine make sure you are getting the latest run, the one with the traction tires installed, the older versions are almost useless as far as pulling power goes, look great, pull poor. The other engines especially the Spectrum are IMHO great engines, look...

    Bachmann Spectrum 2-6-6-2

I have one of the Spectrum 2-6-6-2's and it is a great running engine. It has reasonable pulling power and its slow speed control is good and it can handle the small 18" radius curves with ease. While I was running this engine I only had a small loop in operation on the flats so never ran it...

    The Mother Lode

Beware that the FedEx and UPS both charge the Canadian receiver an additional fee. The fee was explained to me as an administrative fee by the courier (FedEx). In reality USPS seems significantly cheaper.

eBay Question (paying customs & duty?)

If buying on e-bay make sure you check before the bid as to what the S&H charges are. Some vendors insist upon using the highest rates for USPS others cheaper rates. Also, make sure the vendor ships by USPS and not by Couriers. The Couriers such as UPS and FedEx have an expensive fee collected...

    Trucklover's Recent E-bay Wins

RE: Delivery of goods into Canada. Beware of using couriers for delivery into Canada from the USA. The couriers will charge the Canadian receiver an additional fee for filling out forms for International destinations. The charge is in the mid $20.00. A lot of Vendors are unaware of the...

    HO shay Coupler conversion

You should have checked with the Kadee site first. http://www.kadee.com/conv/hocc14.htm the correct coupler is a #5, a #58 or a #148 wisker. Apparently they are all drop in and do not require adapting.

North American RR's coming back big time

The people in North-West BC are for anything that helps the economy. This area is financially hurting like so many forest dependent areas. In addition to the container facility in Prince Rupert there has just been an announcement of a new Potash facility to be built in Prince Rupert as well...
