MTH HO 2009 V2 catalog released

nah, they keep pushing back the SD70ACe and the SD70M-2 so I doubt that the steamers would be on schedule

    Kato-like Switcher

I have a P2K CB&Q switcher exactly like that in HO Scale (road #9217 I think). I am trying to get rid of it. It has a factory dcc decoder and I installed a LED in the front (since the bulb died) Some of the handrails broke, but aren't broken off the engine so if you're looking to get a used...

    DCC on DC

it would be a good idea to check the manuals for the decoders on their respective websites. http://www.ncedcc.com http://www.tcsdcc.com

    DCC on DC

as long as the decoders are dual mode (can run on DCC or DC) you will be fine. Not all decoders can do both. For the low end decoders (around $20), all TCS decoders, and some NCE decoders will be able to do that. Low end Digitrax decoders will not be able to run dual mode.

    Best low end DCC Decoder?

I'd go with the NCE D13SRJ. It's $19.95 retail, and has 4 functions, which is better than Digitrax's DH123 which has 2 functions. You will need 2 functions total for headlight and rear light. the other 2 functions on the D13SRJ can be used for ditch lights, marker lights, cab light, walkway...

    Installing Ditch Lights on F40PH

only the F40PH-2Cs and F40PHM-2Cs have the round ditch light housings. They were built that way with ditch lights. When the original F40PHs were built, they were not built with ditch lights because they were not required by law at the time. After the law was passed, MBTA sent their F40PHs to...

    Installing Ditch Lights on F40PH

thedowneaster, I noticed that on your MBTA thread, you put diaphragms into your comet coaches. Which brand and item number did you use? I bought a couple pairs of Walthers Rubber ones, but I realized now that I have the wrong kind.

    Installing Ditch Lights on F40PH

I think it would be easier to cut off the fan, and fill the radiator with putty and paint it.

    Installing Ditch Lights on F40PH

Thanks! Did you buy those F40PHs in the MBTA scheme or were they repainted from a different scheme? It looks like those F40PHs have the dynamic brake fan. MBTA's F40PHs do not have dynamic brakes. The Walthers MBTA F40PH is correct and doesn't have the fan, but their amtrak models do.

    Installing Ditch Lights on F40PH

It's not my photo. Do you have a part number for the metal high hood bell? I can't seem to find it on ebay and I only have a details west catalog (cal scale and detail associates don't have catalogs) Here's a close up...

    Installing Ditch Lights on F40PH

Mine is going to have LEDs. Once that is done, I'll repaint the purple stripe and the gold stripes, repaint the headlight (the headlight housing should be purple - no gold on it) and add drop style grabs (Walthers included the straight type grabs which would only work on the nose) I'll also...

    Installing Ditch Lights on F40PH

I thought all it took was filing down an area so it's flat.

    Installing Ditch Lights on F40PH

How is it done? The ditch lights sit in recessed housings and I am very afraid to cut the shell myself. Are there any reputable services that can do it for me? Prototype photo here...

    Digitrax Back-EMF

No. To change the start voltage/speed, it's CV2. Atlas units are generally around 10, Athearn can be 50+, proto 2000 should run ok out of the box. I'm not too sure about other brands but the numbers above are general numbers. My Athearn SD50 is at a value of 73 to get it to crawl at speed 1.
