    Water...Yikes! and some track changes.

I've covered up where the resin type "water" creeps-up the banks with ground turf and some underbrush. I still notice the shine on the curve where the water meets the banks. I've been thinking of taking a small brush and hitting just the curve portion of the water with some Dullcoat to take...

Brown or black for wheels and/or couplers?

Can't say I like the brown wheels and trucks much either. Jim

Brown or black for wheels and/or couplers?

I'm thinking ahead to switching some wheels to low profile on some rolling stock and doing some coupler work on a few cars. I noticed there now is a choice of brown or black for both the wheels and couplers. Any opinions of a preference for either?

How to wire lighted accessories (street lights)

I'm not sure which ones you got, but last time I used street lights I wired like kind ones in parallel and used an inexpensive DC wall adapter at about half the voltage that the lights were rated for. It dims the bulbs and lets them last a lot longer.

Tips on creating water ripples with gloss gel medium?

No, just stippled it on with a brush. The gel is kind of thick and does maintain the brush strokes. This is the first time I've used the stuff so there may be other ways of doing it also.

Tips on creating water ripples with gloss gel medium?

Well thank you - appreciate it. Since I'm happy with it now, I think I'm going to leave the creek alone other than adding some underbrush along the bank at places. There is a real danger of fiddling with something too much...

Tips on creating water ripples with gloss gel medium?

Hi Ralph. I painted the creek bed and poured about 1/8" of Envirotex. After looking it over, I was not happy about the color - way too blue/green. So I repainted the bed using more of a black/blue combination right on top of the first pour. I then poured another layer of Envirotex and the...

Tips on creating water ripples with gloss gel medium?

My question may be academic at this point since I went full speed ahead and just put some gloss gel on the surface of the creek. I didn't apply it too thick with a brush as I think I can add additional coats if needed. The stuff goes a long way. Guess I'll have to wait for it to dry, when it...

Tips on creating water ripples with gloss gel medium?

I don't see any way that I could use a hair dryer without creating a ground foam dust storm that would be a mess. My understanding is gloss gel medium is thicker than gloss medium, but it should not be applied too thick on any one coating.

Tips on creating water ripples with gloss gel medium?

I poured a creek with Envirotex and now I'm getting ready to add some ripples to the still water with acrylic gloss gel medium. I have not worked with the gloss medium before so I'm looking for any tips or techniques on how to use it to make good looking ripples and creating the water...

    Painting Rail....

Gus: I think it is a little light when it initially goes on the rails, but it seems to darken somewhat during the building process. Could be because I use rubbing alcohol instead of wet water during ballasting and tend to go heavy on the use of scenic cement. Then again it could be my...

    Painting Rail....

I know I'm probably against the grain for most, but I spray paint my track and roadbed with Floquil Roof Brown from a can. Three passes on each two or three foot length at a time: low right side, low left side and straight down. I then immediately wipe the top of the rail with a clean dry...

    Hard water vs wet water

I like my track and ballasting to be rock hard so when I run a vacuum across the top of the rails to remove dust and stray scenery material, I want the ballast to stay in place. First, I like the real rock ballast from Arizona Rock or Smith & Son. I wet it with a spray of Isopropyl Alcohol...

    Atlas Switch problems

Think I can fix this Atlas turnout that I removed from the layout cause the movable point rails lost their electrical way and I really broke it trying to fix it?
