Typical narrow gauge RGS, CS etc boxcars are about "halfway" between your N scale cars and, for instance, an HO 40' to 50' boxcar visually....

You're most welcome. They're a serious bunch of RR loggers at 4L with lots of knowledge of the topic and a vast network of input. Forumwise, it's kinda like comparing the "NG&SL Gazette" with "Model Railroader" when it comes to logging if you catch my drift....

Yep, as mentioned, Jeff Johnson's book. Anyone attempting this build should get this book at the same time as they get the kit! You'll find out how to build a good runner with the stock parts (no jumping and binding) and how to build a GREAT runner with some inexpensive parts...(noteably, NWSL...
Just a thought or two...
DCC requires CLEAN track and wheels to perform well, so keep that part as sanitary as possible. Polishing the rail with Flitz seems to work very well....
Also, one could consider adding a little weight both for more drawbar muscle and for better contact between...

Far from being "junk", mine has run beautifully straight from the box and can "creep" right alongside my Spectrum Shays! I have "heard" of the wipers giving trouble and requiring a different spring...
