    Auto Rack modelers!

Josh Deano is correct when he said prototype cars are different heights. You will see that when cars are made by different manufacturers, you can see the same rack on 2 different flatcars and see small differences in height. As long as your couplers are not mismatched I think the variation in...

    Bachmann High Railer pickup

Hi Folks, I have a couple of questions. First my LHS has a Bachmann High Railer pickup in the bargan bin, so my first question is are these any good? Obviously they are not well detailed, but my main concearn is can you control them or do they have two speeds, off & full. Second, Same LHS...

    double decker module

That is cool!!......... Loudmusic, I thought that video was pretty cool too, if planned right that could be a 'near perfect' layout. Imagine having an industrial branch line up top and main line running down below. They would have to converge at some point, but it could be done. Careful...

    N Scale TTX Standalone ?

XXbox, Did a quick check, I have a Walthers Thrall stand alone and the car measures 70' end to end and 75' between coupler centers. Times that by 3, 4 or 5 to get your total 'unit' length.

Ok, what's the big idea here?

CNW, This is one of those 'lesson learned' dudes you hear people talking about. It's been my experience that the more underside detail a car has the less it will negotiate smaller radius curves, because like you said, "the trucks keep hitting things". You will probably get told that 18" radius...

Why I love being in a modular club

Guys, One of my favorite stories I like to tell about my modular days, (I was the Secretary/Treasurer of a local modular club), is that during one of the shows we attended a young man approached me inquiring about joining the group, normally not much of a topic however this kid was a...

    Questions.....

Hi Guys, My first question..... What on earth makes those HO Rivarossi Log cars so dammed expensive? ($39.95 for a 2 pack from Walthers). Are they brass? Are they as nice as the KD kits? I'm having a hard time justifing the expense. Second question......I saw a picture someplace of a Log car...

Final result of caulking fun - test photo shoot

Nice and quick Tom, I enjoyed the thread on attaching track and ballast in one step. I think you should send a couple of your pictures from that thread to Model Railroader, they have been attaching track on their project layouts with caulk for a while but are still using the wet method to...

    OK, wad-dew-I-dew-now...

Don, Looks like you've got the makin's of a garden railroad there! In your area that's prolly doable at this time-o-year! Up here in the frozen tundra, that stuff is still a few months away! 2slim

    DCC in Riverossi?

Actually the Blue box Athearns aren't difficult as there is a harness available if you don't mind the cost. Even if you don't use the harness they are pretty simple, just think after 10 you'll be a pro!! 2slim

    Flea market fix'r upper...

Bob, There is a guy in my hometown who picks up cast off cars like this, probably from junk stores and yard sales. He does the same thing, but probably uses detail parts instead of making them himself. He sells them at train shows for $10 a car and usually sells a bunch. 2slim

How about a tin grain elevator

Hey guys, thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. I downloaded a free PDF kit for a out house from these folks http://www.papercreek.com/ Did the HO one and it looks great, in fact I ordered some of their 'Texture sheets' based on how good the outhouse looked. In N scale I'd worry more about...

Teen killed by train in southwest Houston

Didn't a similar thing happen to a girl who was miss texas teen a year or so ago? She was deaf and supposedly couldn't feel the train. I found that odd as well. Hope this isn't some new suicide trend for troubled girls. 2slim

    InternetTrains.com??

I have ordered a few things from them, but it's a crap-shoot as to what's advertised vs what's in stock! I order mostly from Wholesale Trains as the prices are much better. One thing I like about Wholesale Trains is you can see your order history if you log in as a member, (it's free IIRC)...
