This is always the way I imagine it, and it makes a heck of a lot more sense than either the hinge or the back-sliding version:

After looking more at the A-wing, my 2¢: I can see the rear glazing hinge side over, like a MiG-21 PFM (and Y-wing) or lift and side (forward or back). A hinge like the F-84F would be very cool. I don't see both transparencies moving for ingress/egress. But that's just my take.

All this from an old screenshot :) I suppose which source would be considered Star Wars canon? I am inclined to go with ASCMclaren's take, there's that bulge just behind the cockpit that the canopy would have to lift over that makes the backward sliding option a bit awkward. Lucasarts/Totally Games didn't think of that! :hammerhead:

BTW; Model looking good Starbuck! :)

@canopy - also the forward sliding canopy is working. So it would be my first joice for it. (But it might be difficult to realize this in a paper model.) Second joice the way lego did in my picture.

So and now, whats new with my fighter:

OK I see the guns might get a litte bit tricky - we will see.

I think ASC has it right. It would be pretty risky to have something that big lock into place. The section right over the pilot could open sideways, or slide forward, for the matter. That section sliding forward would make ejecting kind of dangerous, though, then again, it probably just blows off. It Star Wars, who really knows!! :)

Zathros, you hit the nail on the head there, Star Wars does "bend" the laws of physics just a bit :)

If it's any help the pilot cover section blows off in the PC game X-Wing Alliance ....

Guns: Picture 1 - strange colours - oh my printer had a problem - new print - everything ok.
The guns are really small and tricky to build.

All in all a rather easy build as well as the side parts are not perfect in my version.
Only tricky things - above mentioned sideparts and the small guns.

Newton was really good at solving things. That's why in New England, they often called him "Fig-Newton)". :mooner:

Just an update on progress on the cockpit and landing gear for this design, just needs a test build and permission from the original designer and then I can upload the changed files!

Looks good enough to me, for 2 cents worth of opinion. :)
