Nothing quite like thread necro, but as it is my thread, and related ...

I have not been modeling for the last 6 months or so. A whole lot of hammers fell late last year, and I am still picking up the mess. However, I am starting to crawl out of that funk.

To celebrate I present: 1:270 X-Wing!

It has been uploaded to my site, and has been included with blank textures to allow you to create your own patterns. I have not included instructions (the very worst part of design is the damned instructions), but they are in .pdo format, so rescaling and examining the model should be relatively easy.

I have not, in all honesty, built one yet, but I've been designing for a long time, and I'm fairly confident this will assemble well (although it is more difficult than the TIE fighter).

I think I've picked my next design...

There is a LOT of work to do, and to be honest, I leveraged a very old project I had to get this far (I had mad plans to make a 1:50 scale model, with full interior...).

Any any rate, I'll post progress as I go. Textures will be last, as much of the detailing with be laminar.

While the kettle is hot, so to speak. Moar progress!

These highlight the laminar design of the panels, and show the detailing that will be put into the model. For my own sanity (and time) I will be making a much more symmetrical version of the Falcon, closer to what I imagine would a 'stock' configuration YT-1300. This will help speed up design, and for the most part, will be lost in the assembly anyway. Purists are welcome to modify as they see fit (and in fact, the laminar design will be very suitable to that). I am eager to finish, as if it goes well, I'll be able to start making the modular elements which make this design so fascinating.

The guns don't look like much, but at scale they'll be around 3 mm long. I would likely use pins to replace them. The panelling on the turret worked out quite well however.

... I too would like to finish the B-Wing. Perhaps next. It, along with the Falcon and the 1:50 Lambda shuttle are my oldest unfinished works.

I suspect there are some good models out there. However, as with nearly everything I do, I do it because I can. My muse takes a firm hold of my mind and compels me to create. She's been sleeping for a long time, it feels good to get back into modelling. I intend to enjoy it while it lasts.

This is a little picture heavy; upper and lower Mandibles are now done, Gear has been roughed out and the forward gear bay and doors are modelled. The two mandibles are at their core, symmetrical, but the upper mandible has an extra boxy structure around the saucer, and the lower has the gear bay. I intend to focus on the dorsal section, including the cockpit/hallway section, before I do more work on the belly.

I am glad you are enjoying the process. I've said before, it feel good to be modelling again.

I have not made significant progress this week, life tends sometimes to interfere, but I have finished the engine thrusters, and the greeble on the engine side of the large underside boxy structure.

The engine baffles are quite intricate, especially for that scale. I will be using UV projection on all of the greeble bits, so builders can omit elements they find too small to construct. This will allow for some rescaling up without major modifications to the model. There is so much excellent detail in the filming model, that a larger (1:50 or so) scale would be a daunting (but rewarding) task to replicate.

Nevertheless, the baffles on end of the thruster panels will be very small at this scale ~3 mm wide or so, with the hinge/clips on the ends of the hydraulics even smaller. I may need to do a test build of these once textured.

I truly understand this psychology. I've talked with Rhaven much. my pain issues make it hard to follow through with models that are 98% ready to go. I love your honesty and insight. Truly, it brings me comfort to know I am not alone in this. Thank you. I can't express how much that statement helped me.
