Hello all,

For those interested parties and fellow Whovians, I am going to try and document all of this build.

I started by using my digital calipers and measuring my MMI Resin "Police Box" Tardis, which is a stated 1/32nd scale. I want My scratch build "Tardis Prime" (my name for it) to be in scale with the MMI resin Tardis.

The MMI "Police Box" measures in at 1.68 inches across the faces, and 3.4 inches tall, so I want my "Tardis Prime" to be as close to the same size as possible. Fishing thru my assortment of plumbing parts I found this,

it's a PVC tube used to connect the basins of a double basin kitchen sink to a single drain. It "slips" together to adjust for length as shiown in the next two photos.

This will be the base of my "Tardis Prime" as it's the perfect size, with a diameter of the larger tube of 1.66 inches, and the smaller tube will slide inside it to represent the recessed door.

I'll rummage around and see if I can come up with some sheet styrene or PVC for the top and bottom.

I'll post updates as I find materials, and document as much of the build as possible.

An update for today,

I made the rough cuts on the PVC pipe to start turning it into the body of my "Tardis Prime"

Used a mini hacksaw from my tool bag to make the cuts. Honestly not the first time I've used work tools for my hobby

This looks to be a great start! Are you planning on painting it? If so, what kind of paint would you use?

Krylon Primer grey base coat, then Valijo model acrylics for the color coats, I'm thinking it would look nice in a concrete grey or maybe a mottled stone grey.

The one onscreen had no details visible, just a grey cylinder with a recessed door of a darker grey, but I'm thinking of adding a door lock and some sort of handle.

Hmmmm I guess I'll have to re watch the episode to do more "Research"

Update today.. Yeah

I got a chance to work on my "Tardis Prime" today. I got the inner and outer tubes cut to length, 3.4 inches, and the door opening cut into the outer tube.

I'll try to get a better pic of the door recess but it has clouded up and looks like rain.

As an Aside I'll wish all the Dads in the group Happy Fathers Day.

Thanks

A long overdue update on my scratch build of the Type 39/40 TARDIS "Tardis Prime"as seen in the episode "The Name of the Doctor". This is the ,un-chameleoned version that Clara tells the first Doctor to take.

assembled and the door latch carved. top and bottom closed off with sheet styrene.1400804_678456048881369_5207953800827253976_o.jpg

I forgot to take a photo of it in it's primer coat, so the next pic is painted Vallejo Dark Sea Grey and US Blue Grey. The latch is Liquid Silver with a Copper key hole (I know that the one seen on screen had no door latch or handle)

Now to make a base for it...
