Skyman00’s Av Builds

I’ve decided to create my own little Aviation corner of Z and put all my future Av builds under this one thread. It keeps all of my builds together, easier to locate and just makes sense to me.

So I thought I’d start out with something G1 suggested/asked about on my Mini F-18 thread on the other forum; an F-14. Thanks G1, great idea!

I thought I’d keep this one small as well. Like the F-18, this too was designed with those same parameters in mind; down scalable, less parts, simple construction, 1 page, etc.

I really like the colors of the first 14s Grumman produced so that’s what I went with. I’ll also change the colors to the muted grays of the later ones when this one is completed, so you guys will have that one as well.

At it’s current page size this one is 1:125 scale or 6”. You’ll need to reduce it further to get your standard 1:200 & 1:300. I’ll figure out the pdf math later and let you know. The small one pictured below is 1:300; quick Photoshop guesstimate.

For now, this is where I’m at. Some of you may have already seen the first pic posted on Gregg’s thread, so excuse the redundancy. I’ve got a bit more tweaking to do as I build each trial run and come up with other things to do/fix. I’ll keep you guys posted as I go and turn her over to the DL section when done. I’ll do my best to keep notes and pics for instructions as I go.

Enjoy, -J0379.jpg 0380.jpg 0381.jpg 0382.jpg 0383.jpg

Intake/exhaust and the 125th next to the little one. This and the F-18 are designed to be put together in a day, easily. Prolly quicker for the micro-builders here.0384.jpg 0385.jpg

It looks like you are off to a really good start!
The graphics and texture look GREAT!!!
I am looking forward to seeing how this will turn out.
If I may ask, what are all of the planes that you are looking at building?

Thanks guys.

I decided on the VF-31 Tomcatters color & livery. Just need to tweak the exhaust nozzle art & linework then I should be ready to start building & photoing for instructions. -J

Finished the needed tweaking and now I feel that she’s at a point I’m satisfied with. Attached are some completed pics and a couple of the instruction pics. Also attached is a pic demonstrating her nose-heavy situ with full wing sweep, thus the nose weight shown Below. Off to write verbage to accompany the instruct pics and then turn it over to the Resource section. -J

You did an OUTSTANDING JOB on this model!!!

What is the weight of the paper that you are using?

What is your next project?

If you are up for suggestions, I would like to see the X-29 or the F-16 XL made.

Spent a little time doing a requested repaint today. Here's the VX-4. Sorry if she looks a little sloppy; kinda whipped it together quick & dirty like.

I'll be back to answer your Qs tomorrow guys. Going to get some shut-eye for now. -J

Guys, sorry for the delay...

Rhaven,

I’ve been thinking about continuing on in this modern carrier theme. So the next one on my mind is the F-35 carrier version. And I’ve always got my Navy trainer (which falls right in line with this theme) going on in the background... see attached pic.

For these smaller scales, (200th , 300th) I’m using 24 lb., bright white, multi-purpose paper. I use 28 lb for full scale (full pg).

I’ll give some thought to the X-29 & F-16XL, but can’t promise anything. You might want to check out Bruno’s F-16 XL over at the other place. He’s got a white one available there on his “1 model/day” thread, ready for a re-paint.

ZC, Not sure I understand your Q: “Shared”?

Do you mean to ask: “Can I DL it from the Resource section for my personal build/enjoyment when available?”

Yes, that’s my intention. Or, were you asking something else? -J

The F-35 is going to be interesting to see. I am looking forward to seeing hot it will turn out.

Thank you for the info on where to find the F-16xl. I will look into it to see what it looks like.

The VX-4 looks good (even if you just "threw it together").

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!

Did I just put these in the wrong place, guys? Sorry, not real familiar with the Resource center.

At any rate, I think I uploaded all 3 versions of the F-14 + 1 instr pg. And, I think I also uploaded an F-18 + 1 instr pg (pics attached).

LMK if I uploaded these wrong, please. Thanks, -J

Rhaven,
I think I put them in the wrong category. I just saw "Military", went with that and didn't look further for the obvious, Doh!
Can you guys fix this on your end?
Sorry for any inconvenience. Oh, & LMK if you need any help locating Bruno's F-16XL, -J
