Pass the ball

Howdy!

I won't be able to build the Sting as I wanted, and it just gave a lethal shot on my moral...   Nevertheless, I offered the model to a good friend here in Zealot to test build it for me (and I think I'll have to do it with the Groizer X as well), which he gratefully accepted. :thumb:
So, after he test builds it, if approved, I'll ask the mods to upload it. Of course, since it'll be a test build, expect some delays for the final version, because of the proper, due fixes.
Thanks for visiting!

C'mon, man, it's made of paper and it (poorly) resembles  a prop from the movie... But I understand your point, point taken :thumb: :thumb:, in our schools is the same, although it's a much "loosen" rule.

Yeah unfortunately here in the states the common sense and intelligence of those in charge of decisions regarding rediculously nonsensical rules have gone the way of hand built physical filming props, and now you can get suspended from school as a 4th or 5th grader with NOTHING more than pointing a mere childs finger on a childs hand, in the shape of a gun at some one.
Next time I hear someone say people are evolving as a species, someone is getting hit.

Don't worry about the title of the post, it's not directed to you, but it translates what I'm about to write here.
Reading the last sentence of your post reminded me of something I used to say in moments like these:

Eu costumava achar que nós somos macacos melhorados, mas vejo que somos piorados.

Roughly translated from Brazilian portuguese

I used to think that we are better APES, but now I know we're worse.

My baby is born

Heya!

Remember when I wrote I couldn't build the model, and so I asked a friend to do it? Well, that good friend was Revell-Fan, who did a superb job, and gave a bunchful of corrections...
Wait, wait! That was totally expected, considering the skills of yours truly... Anyway, RF was able to build my baby, and I'd like to show you what he did. Pic below, whaddya think?
I know that I have a big THANK YOU to Revell Fan for test building it and giving some valuable suggestions!

WAAAHAAAAAAAA!!!!! It is REAL!!!!!!!!!:thumb::thumb:

Your thanks to Revell-Fan is well supported from my side too.
Without his meticulous help, I think you and me Rogerio, would have your sword up our ______ in frustration by now.

But, at the end of the day, YOU, Rogerio, thought of, designed and PROVIDED a workable model.

Nice work my friend. From here on in, the learning curve is not quite as steep.. :thumb:

OOPS, now the cat is out of the bag, it seems!

Really folks, I can assure you, this is becoming one very fine AND popular model! I enjoyed the test-build very much and the parts went together very well. Of course, there are still quite a few things to correct, but I am sure that the next revised version will look even better than this one.

Rogerio has captured the look of the real thing perfectly (I couldn't have done it better!), making it the crown jewel of any LotR collection.

BTW, please correct me if I am wrong, but this model is the first model by Rogerio which has been completed (despite the fact that this is "only" a test shot)!

Carry on, my friend, and together we will make something PRECIOUS... OUR PRECIOUS..! :thumb::thumb::thumb:

Right, as usual... But what to do?

RB

You're right, absolutely right, my friend. this is my first fully assembled model, and I couldn't be more proud. I know, I won't tap myself on my back yet.
Now I'm facing a terrible deal: I just can't re-texture the blade. I have built a new one from scratch (even deleted the old one, keeping, of course, the first plans of the one I've sent you), I have imported the new one to an empty, brand-new file, I did everything I could, but nothing.
Before you ask: yes I created ANOTHER texture image file from scratch, and tried to apply it to the blade. What happened? NOTHING.
The weirdest thing is that the handle (hilt?), which is in the SAME file, being shown in the SAME screen, at the SAME time, has been unfolded by yours truly TWICE, and guess what? The handle textures come along nicely, like they're supposed to.
Oh, and I forgot to mention: when I try to unfold the blade WITHOUT the texture, it unfolds perfectly fine, with all the pieces. I can even generate numbered parts and numbers in the tabs/flaps that point to their counterparts in the other pieces. Talk about weird, huh?
I even tried some basic topological clensing, like removing double vertices, deleting and recreating faces, you name it. So, I think I'll keep the blade as it is, and make the other corrections you've pointed out, then release it. I just don't know what went wrong with the blade texture.
The other option would be restart from scratch, in an new, empty file (which I don't know whether will work... or not). Or maybe learn to use another free 3D modeling software, an easier one. I think these two alternatives are the most extreme, but maybe doing the whole thing from scratch AGAIN might lead to a solution and a better result.
I don't know, guys. Anyone? Please?

Hey Rogerio..I can honestly say, you don't ever have to worry about offending me. I have a pretty thick skin...pretty DANG thick skin, and it's pretty hard to offend me.
I would venture to say that any one of you could tell me something personal ,like my projects need work , and since i already know it, that really wouldn't offend me. I mean backing it up with a tip on a better way to achieve something, is certainly helpful in that event, so I know how to improve in a more efficient way, but I really don't get butt hurt very easily.
Especially when it comes from people I respect and enjoy. Me and friends around me say some pretty jacked up things to each other, and it's pretty dang funny.
I'm not an egg shell person, so dont ever feel like you may be pushing any buttons or over stepping, with any remarks or replies. That goes for any one here. Have a great day and happy modelling friends.
The reach from any remarks or comments made, to that red line, is soooo far away, that I doubt the Pioneer probe has even reached it yet.
I mean some one who grows up with his schooll pictures looking like that guy in my box has GOT to have some thick skin right? hahaha

Rogerio my friend,
You amaze me! That is one fine looking design, and Revel-Fan, nice presentation in the build. The edges look very well and the hilt is great too.

And to think you only started designing just a short time ago.

I heartily agree...I think more people than not, are sick and tired of turning on the news and hearing about yet one more stupid a$^% hyper sensitive jerk off getting all butt hurt and crying to the teacher like a school yard B$%h because some one said something that any one over a 4 year old emotional maturity level would not have cried about. Which I think is why I maintain thick skin.. because that kind of mentality pi#^%$ me off so bad, that alot of times I intentionally step on entire eggs just to hear the gasps of people who are just tooo da^% tight and self righteous.
Okay.... done venting hahaha

Heya!

Well, I have good news and bad news. Bad news first: I haven't been able to unfold the model appliying the textures to it. I don1t know what went wrong...
Good news:
1 - I have found the guy who wrote the unfolding script for Blender, showed him the error messages, and he's already working on it (of course, I can't put any pressure on him);
2 - Revell-Fan is working on new textures, and showed me a preview today;
2.1 - his preview, which he calls "not ready", IMHO, looks FANTASTICALLY AMAZING!!!!!
3 - I have done the corrections RF sent me, and the model is even better now.

RF, if you want, feel free to post the pics you've sent me, I know many here will love it!

Your wish is my command, Rogerio! :thumb:

Well then, as you have correctly said, this is just a preview. I'm still improving the look.

I traced the texture image Rogerio has sent me in CorelDRAW to turn it into a black and white vector line drawing, generated a metallic texture in Gimp and used the CorelDRAW image for bumpmapping.

Once the texture is ready I'll pass it on to Rogerio for further processing.

Evolution is for best...

Howdy!

All right, guys, it seems that things are going to get back on track. I've sent the model to the guy who wrote the unfolding script for Blender, and it seems that there is (somehow) a face that isn't receiving texture (I simply don't know how).
He's going to be kind enough to study my model and see what's wrong with it, get it fixed, and send it back. So, with the model fixed AND Revell-Fan's absolutely fabulous textures, this model will be G-R-E-A-T!!!  Pardon me for my lack of modesty...
So, I'l keep my fingers crossed, although I know things will only get better from now on. Please, keep yours, too.   :thumb: :thumb:

Keeping my pants on...

YO!

All right, emu from Blender Artists (that's the guy who wrote the great unfolding script for Blender) has started to look at the model, but unfortunately hasn't found any error yet, although he knows it happens. Apparently, we're before one of those "ghost" errors that makes us tear the code apart, trying to find it desperately.
As all of us, he does have a life beyond the hobby, and he'll look into it again by the middle of this week. Me, I like to believe I'm helping out, for the error happened to me, but it could happen to someone else, sooner or later.
Anyway, he decided to rewrite the whole texturing toolbox, and that itself will be a major improvement in the script. That alone is cool enough! :thumb:
