Ag2O: Brilliant work! Masterful detailing! :thumb::thumb:

The scale that you chose is PERFECT for the work that you are doing on this model. It is inspiring on many different levels (especially) to those who really want to improve their skills and try new techniques.
I can say that I (for one) am always learning something new from watching your build threads.

As for "CATCHING UP", there is now need for anyone to do any kind of catch-up. TAKE YOUR TIME AND ENJOY!!!

KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC WORK!!!

Thanks for the support guys.

Here are a few more photo updates and ways to modified the build process. I depend on sockets and other tools to maintain cylindrical shapes. For the missile bay, I had to discard one of the lower bulkheads and make it into a full open bay. I would assume, that in reality, you would not see the missiles, because they would be inside individual launch tubes. As shown, it is a disaster waiting to happen when the exhaust is thrown back into the missile bay. A tube would direct the pressure outwards and help in the launch. Enjoy and see you soon with more photo updates.:thumb:

Okay you guys, you all had me use the google translator, So one has God in it and the other a pimp. sign1

Thanks for looking in and for your comments, My engine wiring will be a bit different and at the moment, it seems to be working but that is for another posting. Photos will come soon, I have to edit the photos and take more pictures since I caught up to my photos. Some of the engine works have slowed me down a little.:thumb:

Have you started fabricating Tyllium for the engines? :)

More skin!!!

Here is an update on the skinning of this project.

I do have to say that I have made a HUGE NOOB mistake when making this model in 1:50 scale. wall1wall1wall1
I used 200gsm card-stock (which is what I had on-hand at the time). UHU02 said to use 160gsm card-stock. Because of such, I have ran into a few fitting issues (as you will see in the photos).
(*NOTE* I will finish this build out, but I will be displaying it with the skins off in the diorama.)

Here are the parts of the nose skin.
IMAG2935.jpg

Then nose skin is assembled.
IMAG2936.jpg

IMAG2938.jpg

The nose skin is in place. As you can see, there is a bit of a gap (this is caused by the thicker card that I am using).
IMAG2941.jpg

IMAG2942.jpg

Here are the parts for the lower engine section cowling.
IMAG2943.jpg

Lower engine cowling assembled
IMAG2944.jpg

Lower engine cowling in place. As you can see there are caps here as well.
IMAG2945.jpg

IMAG2946.jpg

IMAG2947.jpg

The moral of this story is, If you are suppose to use a certain weight (or thickness) of card-stock for a particular model, DO SO. Otherwise, you will wind up with a model like this.

Oops! Don't worry, everything can be fixed. Just cover up the areas which are not covered by the skin with some paper, re-unfold the skin (= cut it into pieces again), adapt the plans according to your modifications, print the revised version and assemble it. This is what I will be doing if MY skin doesn't fit. Or print the skin on thinner paper. This is the advantage of this kit: If one component doesn't fit you don't have to re-build the rest of the model.

Anyway, the paper weight is of lesser importance because it will ensure that the parts are stable enough to work without reinforcement; it is the THICKNESS of the paper that makes the difference and that causes the fitting issues. UHU spoke of 0.22 mm thick paper; mine is between 0.2 and 0.22 mm thick, so I guess (or hope?) that everything fits on my enlarged version.

RF, Thank you for the advice. The paper that I am using though 0.33mm thick. At 1:50 scale, a 0.11mm variance does make a bit of a difference when things have to fit together properly.

The diorama will be an "OVER HAUL". Some of the skin is bent. I am going to leave it that way to add to the "EFFECT" that it needs some SERIOUS WORK!!!

I have three ideas for mine,

1. leave as is and be able to either dress it up or leave it naked. this option is if I want to handle it frequently and show off the naked or skinned version.

2. Have it partially skinned with areas open for maintenance viewing, this will be in a diorama display in a partial hangar bay setting.

3. One side skinned and the other side open, placed on a hangar bay deck. The edges will be in red to denote the partition.

Again, this will be dictated by the finished model. I am still in the configuration stage and have not decided on the end product.

i am still editing photos and will post some of then soon. See you all then.

What about a "Two-Face" version, one side skinned and the other one open? So you can show a "whole" Viper from one side and the internals from the other side. Could be a neat effect when it is displayed on a turning table.

That could be a
4. two hangar bay diorama version. One ready and the other having an overhaul.:thumb:

My mistake on my answer to your comment, that would have been version #3, I remember Lingbergh made a submarine that way, which had a clear hull on one side and solid color for the other side.

So here I go again with my build of the Viper. The engine portion will be a bit more different but true to the build. i just add more strength to the parts and I do not have to worry about crushing or bending the part while under construction. Most of the parts will receive some kind of added greebles or parts. Enjoy and see you all soon with more stuff.:thumb:

Thanks for the kind words. UHU made a fantastic design, I am just working some of my stuff into it. He gave the basics and I am just using my initiative. It could not have happened without him.

Silver, this is incredible! The amount of detail and care is astounding. UHU's Viper 2.0 ! ;-)

By increasing the size, the viper screams for details.

Here are some more updates. As I said before, the engines are slowing me down some because of the added details and my way of construction. So far, so good. See you all with more updates.

By the way, did everyone slow down to let me catch up? I depend on your builds as well, they let me catch bugs ahead of time before I get to them.:thumb:
