Just logged on. I could not stand the show "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea". I did want a "Flying "Sub", (Who wouldn't?!?) but I have never seen the UFO Skydiver except in pictures. To answer your original question, the "UFO Skydiver". :)

yay! 2/0 for UFO skydiver!

and yes the flying sub is just too cool, we already voted on that as the most desirable earth based craft.

I always liked the flying sub, but the Skydiver is cool too.

Hands down Skydiver! I hated 'Voyage', LOVE the Flying Sub, but for me, UFO was the best model work and special effects, and the designs of the hardware in general are timeless and superb. I'm lucky enough to have the Product Enterprise Skydiver, and it amazes me every time I look at it what a beautiful design it is!

Even though I have not seen UFO, I would have to pick SKYDIVER as well.
I like the look of the ship.

If you haven't seen UFO it is definitely worth picking up on dvd. Two seasons, 26 episodes in total. The complete series can be had on amazon.

On the surface, it can be very 70s, especially in set design and costume. Deeper down, the show has an edge not seen in other scifi shows. This show is not fluff and camp, it is major kick the invader alien backside story.

Being a Gerry Anderson show, the models are a joy to see.

As for the models, I like the Skydiver and it's companion sub over the Seaview, but the flying sub was a nice looking model, much like Fantastic Voyage.

I think it's time to pull UFO out and watch them again!

Definitely no "fluff". Especially realistic and shows how women should be represented in space. I would go as far as to say I would not offer my services unless the women were dress in this manner, seriously, I just wouldn't go! :)

those costumes and dress designs were all done by Gerry's wife,
also many of Gerry's models, back in 68-70 on the show, are showing up now with little change, in real life!

Leave it to Zathros to remind of that important detail, now I know I have to bring out my dvds and give them another spin.

If you google Martin Bower's models, you can check out many of the replicas he has made over the years that are probably the most accurate reference short of pics of the actual sfx models.....In one article I read about him, he was walking through the Pinewood studios shop area years after the show ended, and came across the miniature of Sky 1 broken in pieces, in a pile of garbage! How sad is that? I believe he also worked on Space 1999 as a modelmaker, as well as other sci-fi projects over the years. I always loved his work, and an article he did for an old magazine called 'Fantasy Modeler' actually inspired me to learn to sculpt, so I kinda hold him responsible for my career! But anyway, check out his models when you get a chance :)

I remember that magazine. Such a pity it did not last long. Only 5 editions, if I remember correctly.......

In the last one, the cover was of a kitbash containing an Eagle command module, wings from the Orion Space plane from 2001, amongst others.... I also got a lot of inspiration from that short-lived mag.......

Skydiver, I love the TV version of the Seaview with the single row of windows as opposed to the double row of the movie version but the Skydiver is by far my favourite of the two one day I will build Gary's model of her and of course his excellent model of Stingray too.
