Baneblade

It has been a while since I had decided to build the Baneblade. The original designed that I picked, was Flarebaffle,s and then came along Eli Patoroch,s design. As usual, My build thread will be a bit different from the usual builds. There will be many parts that will be heavily laminated. The thickness of some parts and formers, will be about the thickness of chipboard. The strength will be able o withstand heavy use for table top gaming. In the beginning, I was planning on an interior for the Baneblade, but I opted out of that portion. There are too many interior levels and almost none of it would be able to be visible. I may make some interior detail for the turret but that will be for later to see how it will come out and if it is viable. Enjoy the thread now for the start of the show. Enjoy and see you all next posting.

It looks like you are off to a very good start.

Thanks for looking in. It is at the rough state in these starting photos but it is coming along well.

I assume that some of you are probably asking how I made the powerplant? I built it too fast and did not take photos of the build. I will probably make a short tutorial on it. The engine compartment was made using the one that is depicted on the GW Baneblade.

The rear of the engine compartment is made by heavily laminating the pieces and tying to imitate the GW references.

One of the most tedious, is the making of the rivets. I was originally going to use pin heads but gave up on that idea, too many holes to drill. The glue drops worked better and faster.

The side track sponsons were made a bit different as you can make out in the photos. the parts were broken up laminated and built up.

Thanks for the words of encouragement "Z", Since I retired, I have a lot of time on my hands, that is when I get away from the grandkids, they love baseball and practice with me.

The panels and those pesky rivets do take a while to accomplish. The chassis is starting to look good nd the next tedious, will be the road wheels. Enjoy and see you all next.

Looks fantastic. Those clamps are great, and they come in a lot of sizes. Only thing is upside down, with all that weight on the mufflers, I'd make sure the exhaust seals don't leak!:p:twisted:

The clamps come in handy every now and then. You have to be careful with the clamps, sometimes they leave pressure indentations and you need to use a buffer (another thick piece of paper or wood) to avoid it. As for leaky exhaust seals, we are talking about the 40K imperium, the more contaminated air, the more authentic it is. Their hive worlds are worse than Salt Lake in the summer with that yellow cloud of smog that cannot climb over the rockies.

Here is the next installment of photos, this time it is the front idler gear box contraption.

Thanks so much for posting your build in such a clear and illustrative manner. I scratchbuild in wood and am now transitioning to paper so this will help me greatly. I enjoy the traditional paperfolding, but this type of paper modeling is truer to my heart and I am learning a lot.

Thanks again from down the road in Wilmington,

Ken

Thanks for looking in. I like to work with wood as well. I have an unfinished thread, "San Salvador Hybrid". It is mixture of wood and paper. It is by all accounts finished, but I have to make the sails for it. If you scratch build or work with wood, paper will be easy to follow. I do my build threads in such a way, that others may learn something and do a better job in the future. Hope to see some of your works soon.

This session will be on the powerplant hatches. They will open and close and you can see the engine compartment. I place one of my imperial guards next to it, to show the size comparison. It is almost the same size as the GW version. Enjoy and see you next posting.

I am jumping around a bit in the parts building session and this is due to waiting for parts to set. So it looks like it is out of sequence but it will work out in the long run.

The plans have a fuel cell option, the old style and the updated version. I opted for the new version but the old style is much easier to do. The hatches are finished and they look alright. I would have added a bunch of wiring and fuel lines to the engine compartment but again, I decided to keep the compartment simple. Enjoy and see you all next posting.:thumb:

Adds to the final reason I shall never visit Salt Lake City!! This is really cool and will probably be the "Baneblade" to beat! :)

Thanks for the comment "Z", This model is coming along well for the moment.

I am a little miffed, I had over 18 photos for editing on the track links and the idler wheels, somehow I erased them. I guess that I will have to re do them later when I start on the other side of the track skirt. Here is the photo update on the fuel cell bracket. As mentioned earlier, the single fuel cell is easier but the updated version does make the tank stand out.

I have to agree with Zathros. You have indeed set the standard with this model (but then again that is the case with all of your builds).
KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC WORK!!!

Thanks for your kind words "RB". I would have made a more intricate build but I decided to keep it simple. Not only that, it takes time to edit all the photos.

As you can make out, there are a lot of fiddly small stuff to add to the details. One track is finished but the build sequence for it was somehow deleted by me by accident. I still have the other track unit to construct so I will do the build sequence for it then. In the meantime, enjoy and see you all next posting.:thumb:

Keep in mind, that I have added extra details. That is why I used the white version versus the color. As I build the model and attach the parts you can see the progress with the white parts on the model before they are painted.

Here is the making of the road wheels. The front and rear wheels are larger and are built a bit different but that will come later, since they were also deleted with the track build. I will show later on when I get to the other side of the track build.

Thanks Terr, glad to see you post again. How is it going over at dakkadakka?

Thanks for the comment Zathros, I do my wheels different from the plans, not only for 40K but for almost all of my models.

Well, it has been over a week since I posted. I lost my server signal and went to another provider. Now I am back with more updates on the build and I have over 100 more photos to edit and up load. Here is the next batch and see you all soon with more and more.:thumb:

You know? Even having done paper modelling myself, even after seeing this particular step-by-step (meaning, i have seen how the magician does his tricks and done some myself), it still blows my mind how awesome and not-like-paper it looks
