Detailed Tie-Fighter

Hi
today I finished my version of ninjatoes great Tie-Fighter-model. Many thanks by the way to ninjatoes for the nice model. I recolored it and vectorized it. It was a lot of work and I startet a lot of testbuild attempts, but finally I got it. I also modified the wings a little bit, for example I reduced the thickness of them. I used also corrugated cardboard to increase the stiffness of the wings. So here are some Pictures of my version of a great hand-drawn Tie Fighter model.

I think that is the "Loenf Tie Fighter" paper model now! If you did all that to it, I don't think it can be called anything but that. The pictures look like C.G. renderings of the model! All these models derive from the original artists work, this, seriously, is now your representation of this model. SO when you gong to upload it!! :)

Looking closely at the model, it does not look like paper at all. You stated that you used corrugated cardboard to increase the stiffness of the wings. I can not tell. You covered it up very well.
As always, you have done a PHENAMINAL job.
KUDOS to you on a FINE job well done.
Viewing your work is always a pleasure.

Ninjatoes tie looked great.
But the Loenf update looks even better..
The wings are more accurate.

It's great looking!!

I know it seems like I am beating a dead horse here, but this is different enough to be called a new interpretation of the "Tie Fighter'. If you felt really bad about it , you could always contact Ninjatoes, but what can they say, no, you can't copy the model that we copied? Let's be real, this is way beyond the Ninjatoes model (which is a great model) and is a new in fact, a new Tie Fighter model. It's obvious. Loenf, are you going to offer this model of yours? I would like an answer, by P.M. would be nice.

Hum...
When the model is from ninjatoes it's his model..also when updated..
When you design the model it's yours..

Ninjatoes did al the thinking about how to conquer some problems
and the update version is made by loenf..(the wings look awsome)

I think when you keep the credits...made by... updated by...
That's fair.

BUT, that's my opinion offcourse...

looks incredible and I am always a fan of all the little subtle details. Look exceptional. I'm Curious how large it is. Since it's corrugated cardboard I'm guessing it's pretty large. Will have to search for some of your earlier builds.

It is your opinion, that's for sure, here's mine. I think Loenf looked at Ninjatoes' model after deciding he wanted a Tie Fighter. After realizing that what he was looking at was all wrong, he decided to make an accurate one. I have no idea why he felt it was necessary to mention Ninjatoes, maybe because he looked at the drawing, I don't know, loenf is the only one that does. These are two different models, made by two different methods. Neither of these people designed the original concept. This was designed by Lucas Arts. These are both interpretations of someone else's work. These models were done using a different methodology. One hand drawn another vector (computer) drawn. If you want to do a sphere out of paper, there are only so many ways of doing it. If loenf wanted to upload this model as his own, I would consider it his own and I would not have a problem at all approving it either.

I do a considerable amount of CAD work and maybe it is because of that I know what goes into these models, and making the primitives that are the building blocks of all these paper models. No one I have ever met or heard of can lay claim to having the rights to these. Non-uniform rational basis spline work began in the 1950's. Making the curves to get a sphere goes back 1000's of years. Let's get real here. This is way past being an "update", they are in different Galaxies, far far apart.

Hi

Loenf should show as a futuristic prototype of Chrysler. There is even the logo on the sides. ; )

Maybe this is a Mercedes disguised as Chrysler too. Okay I go.

It's still a beautiful model. Das ist ein wunderschön Modell

Thanks, Zathros for the side by side comparison. I remember a while back liking NJT's model....but not really digging the detail. Loenf created and amazing "re-interpetation" that I would personally rather build. So......Mr. Loenf, I (and others) would love to see some build pics and your tips and tricks, and maybe an optional downloadable "updated" parts sheet for those who would like your version. Please o' please.

I wish he would. He can give credit to whomever he wishes, might want to include Lucas Arts too. If he wishes to upload this model, it will be allowed. If he wishes a "blessing" from Ninjatoes, that's fine, but with or without it, it will be allowed. If people modeled these exactly like those used in the movies, the parts should be interchangeable. :)

Hum..
ok...i also would like to have this treasure in the download-area..
And i would honour the maker of the beauty..
I did it with ninjatoes when he made it availible..
And certain will do it with Loenf when he would do it, with HIS tie :)

It just looks so great and sharp and clean...

ahum...Loenf, do you also have a Imcold xwing?..
How do they look together? is the scale the same?

Tie re-drawn version

Hi,
at the last few days I talked to ninjatoes and he said it will be okay to share my re-drawn version. Now I am sort and number all the Parts, so that the original instruction can be used at least for the cockpit and the pylons.
But... I am not sure if it is usefull, because I didn't draw any flaps ( I never use them), therefore it would be better to make building report. So , stay tuned! There is a little bit work for me, even at the cockpit-section ( I am not satisfied yet!)

regards loenf

No serious modelers uses flaps. They can be added afterwards. I applaud your asking Ninjatoes, but as I have discussed this matter with many moderators of many forums, you did not need to do this.

I don't want this being set as a precedent either, because it isn't, and frankly, I think it is bad practice. If someone makes a model of the same subject, and does a fantastic job on their interpretation of the subject at hand, they owe no one any considerations. their model needs approval by no one except, in this case, you, Loenf.

SO, as a future warning to those who do not seem to understand how this works, just because someone made a paper model of a subject first, they do not have ay kind of rights, and in this case absolutely no rights, non implied, or otherwise. There are no copyright holders involved here , just people copying the work of others, that is fact. As Disney has purchased Lucas Arts I would advise everybody and their brother to download everything Star Wars they have as Disney could shut this whole thing down.
