From the first time I have seen him, I knew I have to build him. So here goes...

(tread carefully, my antivirus reports some problem with an external component of this page (a counter perhaps?))

To save space and paper, the model is reduced to about 2/3 by printing two pages on one (A4). All the parts are rather large (we will see around the fingers :)), so it is not a big problem (yet). I try not to score the paper unless it is necessary, and to put the flaps under the parts, especially when the parts are supposed to be round. It has the common flaws of a model exported from a game, eg. low-polygonal circles and tubes, and some asymmetric parts. But I try to manage somehow :)

Upper torso with the powerplant (or whatever has such large coolers in the rear):

Some smaller "side quests" - Helmet, shoes, pauldron:

Completed so far:

The final size of the guy should be about 20 cm, thus the scale guess ;)
The pad has its inch-y side up, if you are interested in the size of these parts ;)

Looks great!

If you managed the indentations on the horseshoe shaped plate above the helmet you wont have much problem with the other parts IMO.

Some parts could use some more polygons. but I've realized that during assembly. The original model detail is actually better suited for the scale you are building it. I've scaled it to my other two 40k models and didn't realize how bit its going to be.

Ill be watching this with interest so keep up the good work.

So, we move on to the belly, belt and hips. The forming of the thin strips is a bit tricky, but it came out pretty nicely.

Belt & belly (seems like some soft parts exposed):

(so many flaps...)

Put together. :)

And the hips:
Right side:

Left side:

(looks like iron underpants :D)

To be continued ;)

.Pdo files are also great instructions. They tell you where the parts go. Just spend time with it, it is all you need is there. :)

Slowly pushed through the "torso" part. The small bits (seals, teeth, talismans) still remain, but they will have to wait until finish.

The thigh part was a bit tricky - the strips were very thin, so the flaps had to be cut out after gluing one side. Connecting these to the hips was another hard evening :)

Rest is similar, the shin armor is bit more oversize, so the problems were not so big :) The feet will have to be weighted somehow to make him stand...

I have a feeling that the real fun will start around the arms

I think the thighs are the mos difficult part on this model so you shouldn't have any problems with it. (ok maybe the small ornaments will be a bit interesting on the scale you are building it)
I've made my terminator with detachable arms in case i feel like changing the gear for example a Thunder Hammer and a Storm Shield. (which id have to unfold and texture so probably wont happen :p )

It surely does, it is a fine model to work with :)
All right, bless state holidays, we got somewhere further (not much cutting included :)).
But:
Soles of the boots from a cardboard (yes, I know, I should have had this made before closing the boot). Weights from lead bullets glued into clusters with paper tape and then glued into the boots (enough weight, I think :)).

Then to the paint shop. It was not that easy, because the edges are not an uniform colour, there is some highlighting and similar, at the end the proof paper was much more filled :)
(hope the difference is visible here:)

And finally, all put together -
TIME TO LEAVE THE BOX! FOR RUSS! FOR WOLFTIME!

Detachable arms crossed my mind. If I get my hands on small flat magnets, I will implant a dull blade in his shoulders and a small magnet in the arm. It could work just fine. Even implanting a shaft would be possible, as he is completely hollow :). Would that motivate you, if we were two thinking about it? (Heck, I am not sure I would glue it, either ;) :p)

I have found that the magnetized stickers tend to lose their magnetism rather quickly. Radio Shack used to have packages of little magnets that were pretty good. I have some industrial ones that cannot be separated by hand. 1/2 diameter, 1/2" thick. So they are out there. My son has some toys that have ball and socket magnets as joints and work rather well, though other than scavenging them from toys, I'd be at a loss where to get them. Lego Technics has some, but the scale would probably be off. :)

I have those small flat round neodymium magnets inbound from China :) The prize the sellers here dare to ask for them is worth the wait. So in 4 - 6 weeks they will arrive, I hope :) There is enough work on this for the time :) I have some good experiences with these. It can hold the dull blade pretty well, but through two layers of strong paper not so well to damage the part when removing it. So, we will see.

China is the largest supplier of these magnets. There prices have gone so high that the U.S. has reopened it's own mines. I think the U.S policy is use theirs till the price is too high, then dig up our own. It is one reason I re-cone vintage speakers, the rare earth magnets in them cost a fortune, and the speakers today rarely have such quality magnets, which is why they sound so much better, and create such a greater tone, and sensitivity, something not even listed in speakers these days, unless they are high end units. :)

Shoulder guards - when it got a bit repetitive, it was over. Most of the flaps were cut off and put under the paper to get the seams as invisible as possible. No scoring, to make the shape as round as possible. Worst part was putting the outer and inner layer together, but, to my surprise, it did fit pretty well (with some minor flaws on my account :))

Complete, painted edges. Whew...

On to the Crux Terminatus. Some tiny work, but totally worth it :)

(here, doggy, have a bone!)
