"Mujahideen of the Galaxy" Space cruiser Satania

Shunichi Makino, the Man behind the designs of many excellent works like the Rens Head series, and many more, has done it again.

His latest is a design of a starship from a 1979 SF Novel. Using only a single Image, and alot of speculation, he came up with this. Well done my Friend, Well Done! :) No download yet, and not sure if there will be one (THis might have been a one-off) But still a share worthy design and build. :D

I saw this... impressive as usual... but I am getting the impression that we won't be seeing anything but one-offs from here on out from Shunichi. He has said that he won't release the TIE Fighter due to copyright issues. Considering that there is practically a new Star Wars model every week from someone and none of them are having trouble, I'm doubting this reason. I think it is more likely that he got fed up with all the unauthorized sharing of his models. Which is the same reason many designers have stopped sharing as of late, temporarily or permanently. It's a shame, but I can't say I blame them. I wouldn't hold your breath for this one.

I don't think it was the sharing itself of his designs, but rather the profiting and credit stealing of his designs that he had issues with. I would have issues with that also though. If he does or does not decide to release the templates, it does not matter, (although I wish he would, I have built a few of his designs, and they are awesome) He is an excellent designer, and just being allowed to see his imagination at work is a great honor.

This Hobby is being killed by people stealing and selling other people's work, and on the flip side, people making the most simplistic models, and being gobbled up by online models shops that seem they need to make a dollar off of everything that is made. I have seen models that were started and stated to be offered for free, only to end on on specific sites, which I won't name, which want to gobble up everything and everyone. It is getting to be a bit much.

I would advise any business that may think for some reason, I am speaking about them, to be careful what they say. Self Promotion of a Commercial Enterprise is a serious offense around here, and you could be and probably are wrong

Agreed, any irritation I have for the decision to not release designs are leveled at those who refuse to honor a designer's requests. Why people can't just show that small bit of respect for someone who gives freely and asks for something so easy... I don't get it.

Ultimately those who openly disrespect these designers just end up shooting themselves in the foot as well as your foot and mine.

I too am honored to just see such works of art... but unfortunately it also reminds me of just how many d-bags infect this hobby and ruin a good thing.

Hope Shunichi Makino will release this cool spaceship.
I saw some WIP on his blog and I thought it was a really MUST-HAVE model.

Agree with the need to respect the work of the people that are giving so much to this hobby.
Some great artist around; many put sweat and blood on his project and give them for free, we only have to thanks and give proper credit where credit is due.
Some turn paper modelling into business (and live with it) and it's ok. I mean, if I like a model, I'll buy that model.
Always respect artists works and will.

That's a good idea, maybe someone could invite him here. I have no knowledge of how to reach him.

I like FREE, a lot. There are some models I would pay for. Their quality is obvious. Their price is ridiculously reasonable, Any work from Goldenbear sold through GREMIR is an example.

If you e-mail him, don't call him Chinese. He's Japanese, and would probably take insult to it, not to mention turn you down.

And I have his e-mail already, thanks :)

That's a very nice model.
I'm usually not into sci-fi models, but this one is beautiful. Great to see there are people capable of producing that kind of models.

I've just found this model and would like to get it myself, too. It looks awesome. Using google translate I found out how it was created and why it wasn't available for download.

The model was made according to an image from a book from 1979. Several portions of the ship were not visible in the image so that the designer had to use much artistic freedom to create them (he even apologized for this).

It is a commercial model which can be purchased for 1000 Yen. You'd get a pdf file with 7 parts pages. If any of you is interested click on the button showing the "Satana" on the left of the page which leads to the order site.
