Hi all,

The director and fire control radar are done and assembled. Next picture was taken by me at the Haifa Israeli Navy Museum, with the director on the bridge and fire control radar on the mast.

And as it looks on the model ...

Hello Donald O'Brian,

Thanks for the interest and comments, really didn't poste for a very long time.

The rigging at first looks as a big chalenge, but using a thenique found in another thread about USS Arizona (I think), it became an easy thing. I used a card board, and two types of strings, wraped them on the card board in marked slots. Covered it with glue, and after it dry, painted it in gray.

What kind of glue did you use on the strings? I tried this technique on my MO65 build but couldn't get the results you've achieved.

Great work on this whole build. Is this to be released as a kit in the future? I really like the ship and you're doing a bang-up job on it.

Hello anthbuss and Steve, thank for the very encouraging comments.

For the glue I used a MOD PODGE gloss-lustre bought in the USA, and it is working well.

Regarding releasing the kit, all files are in jpeg, but not orgnaized and had some scale problems that not sure if were corrected. So, before releasing it I need to build it againe as a SAAR 3 version, that has the same hull and bridge and a 3inch gun at the bow and 2 rotating launchers at the steren (good idea for a new thread). At the same time I can orgnize and revice the SAAR 2 files.

Hello all,

For more detailing of the bridge, I had to remove the mast. The woden floor was doen from two perpendicular layers bonded together, cut to the shape and bonded on the bridge and director base.

Other details added - two chairs doen with a flexible wire, antenna bases, two life buoys located at the bridge sides, shafts with propelers, and a woden base for the boat.

Great work Shalom. We can really see it's a labor of love for you. I'm curious, are you planning to give it a specific boat number?

Hello Vince,

Thanks for the interest and comments. This is my first screatch building, and it was a challenge.
The Israeli Navy is now giving names to it's boats, and not numbers. Name of this model ship will be INS Mivtach (Reliance).

It seems to me the last bit of the model is the hardest, putting on the last parts, wondering if you should detail more. She's a great looking ship and Mivtach is a great name. :)

Thanks Zathros,

You are right about detailing, a scale of 1-100 allows many detailing, and at some points (in the future) it should stop.
Next in the detailing are bridge antennas, name plat, chairs, and added shels to the guns.

Shalom,
Finding this thread has been an inspiration for me. I served on three similar boats in the U.S. Navy and have often thought of a scratch build because I cannot find a paper kit of the US PGs. The boats I served on were slightly larger at 50M length 6.7M Width and a displacement of 250 tons. They carried a 3”/50 gun mount forward and four SM2 surface to surface missiles aft. A truly beautiful/inspirational build and I have already started my research on the US version.

Regards
Frank
