Hello everyone

I've built very simple models for a number of years now. Mainly FG models that I bought and various others I have found on the net. Right now I'm working on a clock (more complicated than I'm used to). I don't get to work on them as often as I'd like, so it takes me a while to complete them. I find card modeling very therapeutic.

:welcome1: stephenb! I worked on a clock model about 30 years ago. I got it to work and it told perfect time twice a day. The fact that I could get all those gears to move and make the escapement mechanism work in itself I found astonishing. That was way before the internet, and I am saddened i did not keep it. I have not seen that book since. I tried to buy it against a couple of moths later but they no longer had it.

Thank you for the welcome! I am very meticulous in my model building so when this clock was given to me as a gift I was very excited, but the more knowledge I gain about this clock, the more I come to understand that my best efforts may not produce a working clock. Knowing this now ( I only have the frame and a few gears built so far ) allows me to do my best but not get my hopes up too far. In fact, if I can make it work at all I will consider my efforts succesful.

-I have built a couple of clocks. I would suggest using plastic straws for beings, making the bears as perfect as humanly possible, and coating the contact areas with super glue so they don't wear. If it moves, make sure it has a bushing of some sort and lubricant. The other things is the frame is never strong enough and I would suggest making it out of wood, a hard wood too. That will make a clicking device, but accuracy is another story.

All very good advice. Do you think I could save my "pringle chip" gear by soaking it in wood hardener and squashing it again until dry?

Please excuse the poor photo quality, I just took these with my iPod. Theseare some of the first models that I have built. They are about eight or soyears old now. I gave many other models away to my kids, friends, and coworkersover the years. I built the ship in the bottle about one month ago and theclock frame and gear is the model I'm currently working on.

VERY COOL! I like these. You have a wide range of skills as those are very different models. The older ones are a testament to the longevity of a well built paper model. I have a boat that is around 26 years old. 2 of the seats have fallen out. I should post a pic of it. It's a rowboat. I poured liquid crazy glue over the paper, then painted it. It is as hard as a rock!! I was not so "Green" back then! :)

Thank you. I have a feeling that not all of my pics posted but I can't see them. Is that due to my low post count?
