MTH and NCE

I just bought an MTH SD70ACe with DCC and sound. Problem is that it seems to be unreliable on my NCE system - sometimes unresponsive, reverts to address 3 rather than the long address when power is shutdown, engine sounds go silent, etc. Any ideas?

Problem w/ MTH is their system is not real DCC but their own system. So the 2 systems aren't compatible. You'll have to replace their decoder w/ a real DCC decoder or buy their system.

I think you may be right. I originally bought three of these SD70ACe's, but had so much trouble with the first that I have already sold one of them unopened. I understood they required higher voltage than most DCC decoder locos, but I was hoping to consist the remaining two. I am pretty heavy into my NCE DCC system so won't be changing that for just two locomotives, but may have to just accept they are to much trouble to run on my system.wall1

Anyone been able to get them (MTH locos) to run reliably on a regular (NCE) DCC system?

PS: Changing the decoder would lose all the MTH unique features (voices, coupler control, etc), but is there an easy change out decoder available for the MTH SD70ACe that would, at least, still have basic controls and sounds?

Do a browser or Google search for "mike's train house & dcc". You should get a few hits.
