I got hit by a threat here two times now.
I don't think it was another website, because this was the only window I had open.
I just wanted to let the admins know...

Well, I got it again today, but I had some other windows open this time.
I forgot to take details, but it seems to happen to me only once a day...
I'll get details if I can next time,it might be some of the script or something...

A virus on Zealot? This site was recommended by FG so I don't think so. If you ever visited a suspicious site before, clear your history and feeds. That site may have put a cookie on your PC.

If you have a virus, it won't start *immediatly* after being downloaded to your computer, that would be too easy to detect.
A computer virus usually goes to a "stealth" mode for a few hours, days, or sometimes months before activating.

And I noticed no virus at all on this forum, it's just a forum, not a download site.
There are plenty other ways to catch cold -- err a virus ;)

Not true. It all depends on the virus. A service might start up in the background that allows remote access via a particular port for example. It may not get used for an arbitrary amount of time, but that doesn't mean the service hasn't started running almost immediately.

In my wandering about this site and many many other papercraft sites i've come across lots of really suspicious sites, and my antivirus has been going off fairly regularly. Nothing that was hosted here, but if you jump to a link from here, then another link, then a file hosting site, then BAM!

I'm always suspicious of stuff that comes in pdf format due to the constant stream of adobe vulnerabilities that have come out

Virus 'alerts' on reputable sites are usually generated from something the banner ads are doing and aren't actually viruses but usually 'blocked' notices caused by a suspicious redirect script or black-listed domain.

If you are using Firefox as a browser look up the AdBlock add on, this helps prevent virus through ads. Always have a Anti-Virus installed/updated and running at all times. I also suggest using Spyware/Adware program that has a "realtime" scanner. These are like Webroot's Spysweeper, kaspersky, or such. Some even are Virus and spyware together in one program. DO NOT go for those programs like SpySherrif, or alike, go for known programs, why because SpySherrif and alike are the virus it self.

If you are getting hit with virus, which program or how are you being notified you have a virus? If you have an anti-virus program and it is telling you it's stopped it, then you should be fine. Just make sure you update it and do a complete computer scan. But I do suggest using a newer browser such as Firefox 4, or latest google Chrome browsers, they do have better ad blocking and "bad" website stopping.

Microsoft Security Essentials is free to download and requires no subscription. It also gets updated with the same processes as Windows.

If you have a virus, it will not start, download to your computer, it would be easy to detect * immediately *. Computer viruses are usually to a "stealth" mode for hours, days, sometimes months before the activation.

Around December 2010 anytime I logged on on zealots, a file called 'cb_render.php' automatically downloaded to my pc over and over again but I blocked the download in google chrome. I'm not sure if this pertains to this 'virus' jacksparrow is talking about.
