Hi Silveroxyde. Can you tell me which paper did you use to build the dropship ? I use generally 160g/m2 paper here in France. Is it a good one for this model ?

I like to use 110lbs weight for my models but yes 160g is okay. In my build, many of the parts are glued to heavy cardstock and this is what makes or gives it structural integrity. I printed the model in A-4 format or as indicated in the beginning of this thread. Enjoy and hope to see your version build soon as well.

A bit late for it now, mate, but the 1:24 APC scales down quite nicely to 1:75 (1:72 should be easy). I was trying to scale it to 1:50 years ago and bolloxed up the measurements (didn't figure it out until I built the main box). It is a LOT more detailed than the 1:148 you are using. I can snap some shots of my assembled one if you would like, with measurements.

Yours looks great at any rate!

Tirick

I have plans for the 1/48th scale in the future but this small one will be a little more detailed than the plans called for. It is finished and I am prepping the photos for uploading. And yes, I would like to see some photos of your works as well on the APC. Thanks and see you around the forums.

Silver, I love the work on this and the Imperial Guard Dropship but, now this is going to sound super stupid, but can you explain to me how you upped the scale on this model? I want to build a larger scale one than Jans but also the APC like 1.5 - 2 times the size it is now available. I want to try to build something thats bigger cause I want to try my hand at detail and scratch built interiors...trying to follow in your awesome foot steps.

Thanks for any help mate.

For the APC, it is already at the 1/48 scale over at Jans site. You have to search for it because he has a series of 1/148 scale APC's. Find the one with multiple pages http://aliens.humlak.cz/aliens/aliens_papirove_modely_cz.htm Look over at resin illuminati for the APC or google for it, and there is a plastic model out there that has been upgraded with a full interior that can be used for reference. Here are a few copies of those pics. As for the drop ship, I have not found a 1/48th scale download yet but it is possible using Jans plans but the parts will have to be cut up and re-pasted on different sheets or go to Kinkos, Office Max or Staples and have them blow it up about 90%. or if you have access to a copier, increasing the copy until you get the size you want and then keep up-scaling the pages. Or if you are computer savvy, play with your art program until you are comfortable with the size and then copy the parts you need on each page. The problem with this upscale, is that you may have to recolor most if not all of the parts or remove the color and do a white version and color to your taste when building it. I may try that in the future but I still have a bunch of ideas to build. Good luck and hope to see your versions soon. Enjoy and see you around the forums.

Thank you. I change the format to print on A3. The pieces will be more easier for me. But I will build it next year :).

Didier, Good to hear. Will wait to see your build next year.

Getting to the end of this phase and ready for phase III, the landing bay. Here is the APC outside, inside and coming out. It is a very tight fit. An added bonus for the wire hydraulics for the ramp, is that it that they slide out slightly for the fitting of the the APC into the cargo bay.

Didier69 and Tirick It is not quite done yet. A few more items to go.

Starting on the base, I have not decided if I will go all out and make all of the extra stuff like cranes, containers and other electronic items laying around the deck. I need to get back to the other Imperial Dropship/shuttle.

Here are some update photos of the deck...

A few more updates on the platform. Instead of making it like on the instructions, I glued the sheets to cardstock and separated the individual parts and then I glued them to a foam board. Eventually I will transfer the framework and glue them to a thin sheet of plywood. The foam board over time, has a tendency to bow. The deck ornaments can be made as is, but they are full of details that can be cut out and re done with more realism. The only draw back, is the time consumption.

The ship is done but here comes the extras, and each structure is a model upon itself. The base for the antennae array should be done twice for the two options, but I am going to do only one option for now, maybe the other one will come later, like next year 2011.

First I will start with the easy part, the storage sheds/boxes. The ends are laminate and the one with the relief design was cut and laminated to show depth. There is an open panel which is cut out and hydraulics made from tooth pick segments and strip of paper is inserted inside of the opening. For the lift device segment. The sliding rails are cut into the base and laminated. The sliding base is made, and trimmed out with hydraulics are scratched built and placed inside.

Looking at the landing base, it also has the added possibility of being used as a landing pad for the Warhammer Thunderhawk and other Imperial acft. The buildings and accessories can also be used in the Warhammer universe.

More deck modules and stuff for the landing pad. the Bio Hazard building is constructed. The top air vents were cut out and recessed in. the vent fans were constructed and the fan inlet was drilled out. Started on some radar array implements.

I am not sure which radar array these parts belong to, but I cut away, and added some extra stuff to the parts. The part was partitioned off into separate parts, laminated and glued back into the shape required

Still more furnishing updates for the landing pad. Did a trimming around the radar array arm. Using pieces of a paper clip. simulated the piping system. the round caps were made by laminating circles to the desired depth and then skinning the object. The caps were made by rounding them with the end tip of a paint brush on a soft foam pad. A mouse pad will work for this. More to come so stick around. enjoy and see you all around the forums.

Still more stuff to do on this project. The radar array arm is done, Set it aside for now. Now to start on the base for the radar control building. The inserts are laminated to glue on the edges. The top of the housing is also laminated for strength. When the inserts are done, the bottom piece is laminated also and glued in place. The legs are laminated internally and the tabs are used for this part of the build. Made some cutout panels which will be detailed later with wires and stuff.

It seems that the more I build on this project, the the longer the builds. There are still a bunch of more stuff to build and the platform is not big enough for all of it. I was going to trim the platform around the edges of the landing pad but the surrounding area will come in handy for the extra stuff. If You were to place all of the buildings and accessories on the landing pad, thare would not be enough room for the Cheyenne.

On with the Radar array complex. The pictures are explanatory. The next part of this download will follow. Enjoy and see you all soon around the forums.
