Thanks for the comment Devox.

With these models, I have been experimenting like if they were being made from plasti-card and treat them as such. If you noticed, I try not to use tabs and make my side thick enough for gluing. I then sand the edges and it seems to give me a clean edge. I usually paint my models by hand but if I use a colored model, I try to mix the paint to the appropriate color. Most of my edges are colored in with acrylics, the paint brush can color in the gaps that a sharpie or felt tip cannot.

Now to continue with my next build, the Space Marines Bikes. This will be done in three phases. Phase one will be a tutorial on how to make the wheels. The wheel can also be used in other types of vehicles not inclusive to Warhammer. The second phase will be the body of the bike, slightly different from GW. The third phase will be the side car, which will be similar to the WW-II type, ie. the german version. So without further ado, here is the start of the build thread.

001-002. Start the build with strips of paper the width of the desired
wheel. I use a pen the approximate size of the of the center of the
wheel. A sharpie will work great for this application.

003. I place a round cover over the sides of the wheels to cover the ridge
look from the rolled strips. Once the cover is set, I trim out the
centers to give the open tire look.

004-005-006 Cut each thread out individually very carefully or you can
cheat by punching out the center of the threads with a small punch
which I also use for making small rivets. This technique allows you
to cut the strips out and save the threads from being cut off
accidentally.

See you next posting with some more on the wheel technique.:wave::wave:

Silveroxide,
Once again great job making some fantastic models, I see you keep tempting us with the bikes! I am anxiously await this build! The bikes are my favorite, it's a shame that GW makes them so expensive.
A paper alternative is a welcome sight! :thumb:

Here are some more updates on the bike. The bike is finished and all I have to do now is edit the photos and uploads them for your perusal.

007. The tires are done. I sanded the inside round as well as the outside of the tires.

008. I used a paper stick (Q-tip) for the axles.

009. 010. The pieces for the inner hub. A Sharpie is great for this part. It has the spacing for the inner hub at the tip of the pen. This will allow for the hub to be slid into the tire center. Do not over do the rolling, two times around the end of the Sharpie should be good enough.

011. The outer hub ring is just a simple tube.

012. The paper stick is now used to roll a thin strip around the stick/axle. You will need to keep measuring the size so that it will be able to fit in the rim of the hub. The length is a bit less than the length of a sheet of paper.

This is it for now, see you all soon with more updates.:wave::wave:

Here is a photo of the Space Marine Bike at the moment. While I scratch build the weapons, this time I got a bit lazy and used some of the GW parts from my bitz box. Will continue with the build thread shortly.:wave::wave:

On with the build thread, here are some more photos.

017. This photo is out of sequence because it should have been shown earlier. When the glue has set, round the edges and finish off with sand paper and finally with a jewelers file. Sand the part gently to avoid lifting of the paper from the part. Also round the inside rim as well to give that roundness to the tire.

Now back on track with the build steps.

013-014. Once you have the desired thickness to the inner hub, slide it into the rim sleeve to about center.

015. Paint the wheels at this time. Black for the tires and your color of preference for the rims, I chose gun metal.

016. Once the parts are dry, insert the rims into the tires.

018. I cut a thin strip of card stock and cut them into eight pieces and placed them around the axle to simulate the cooling fins. This procedure will go on both sides of the tires to be used on the bike. The side car and the spare tire will need only one side done.

See you all shortly for updates on the bike.:wave::wave:

More updates and on with the show.

019. This is the last steps for the tires. This method is applicable to other builds besides Warhammer. Later I will post the wheel thread lug strip.

PHASE II. The bike.

020. for the center of the bike, I laminated it about 6x

021. Here are the parts that make up the center of the bike. The engine head covers and the side panels to the engine.

022. The parts are glued. Note that the head covers are sanded round.

023-24. Now for the fenders. The procedure is the same for the front and the back fenders.

The bike is starting to take shape. See you all next posting.:wave::wave:

More on the bike.

025-026. Folded the tabs in and then glued the rear fender to the engine block.

027. Did the fender the same as the rear and glued the front fender in place. The front fender is a little shorter to the top front than the rear fender.

028. In the rear fender, I cut a hole for the drive shaft. Made the wheel brackets for the rear wheel and expanded the rear hub to accept the drive shaft.

029 Placed the bottom plate on the bottom.

030. Glued the wheels in place. I was a bit hasty and the wheels are slightly off center but watch the alignment when placing them in place.

This is it for now, see you all next posting.:wave::wave:

Now on with more updates on the Space Marine Bike.

031. This step is out of sequence but take the laminated part and start to sand round the edges and fine tune with a jewelers file or wet sand paper.

032. Attached the fuel tank and paint the small engine details.

033. Started to paint the bike Ultra Marine blue.

034. Using a tooth pick, cut a hole in the front fender and adjust the angle of the forks.

035. Wrapped a small strip on the upper portion of the forks to simulate the absorbers. and placed them through the hole and angle measured earlier step.

036. Made the center cross member piece that joins the forks at the neck.

That is it for now, more to come. See you all around the forums.:wave::wave:

The bike is finished, the only thing left, is to post the pictures. Here is another batch in the build sequence.

037. Made the handle bars from a piece of a tooth pick with a strip of paper wrapped around it and attached to the forks.

038. Attached the pipes. This bike will only have the exhaust on one side.

039. The exhaust manifolds are made with a center tube and another strip of paper wrapped around it but with an overlap for the center pipe.

040. Painted the exhaust manifolds and attached the foot pedals.

041. Top view of the pedals.

042. Made the seat from a piece of foam sheet. Glued the template which will act as the back/underside of the cushion.

There is more to come, so stand by for the next posting. See you all around the forums.:wave::wave:

The bike is finished, it is only a matter of posting the pictures, here is the next batch of pics.

043-044. The placement of the seat

045. Made the seat back rest support.

046. Place the gas caps and the frontal armor shield. Painted the backside before putting it in place, or it will be hard to paint the backside later.

047. Scratch built instrument cluster.

048. The armor plate is on and noticed small details on the engine block

There is more to come fast and heavy, see you all next posting.:wave::wave:

more photos on the way.

049. Top side view of the bike. At this stage, the bike is finished to be used as a scout bike

050. The beginning of the side car. The sides and bottom are laminated 2x.

051. Made some internal support and bulkhead to keep the side apart and as a contact point for the top panels so that they will not bow inwards.

052. Place the top panels

053. I was going to make the side car connection with a series of pipes and brackets but opted for the easier single panel.

054. Everything is now Ultra marine blue.

It is getting close to the finish but not quite yet. See you later.:wave::wave:

The bike has weathering applied to it.

067-069. Test fitting the figures. They are from the Games Workshop. I had to cut and dice the figure to make it fit the seats and side car. I was worried that the bike was too big for the figures but they fit perfectly in their positions.

070-072. The arms were cut and formed to fit the angles of the handle bars. The insignias were hand painted on. The decal sheet was a bit too old and so was the decal set. The figures received weathering to the body armor the same as the rest of the bike. I used a wash of burnt umber for the weathering.

Over all the Attack bike is finished, I will follow uo with final pictures shortly.:wave::wave:

Finally here are the last photos of the Space Marine Attack Bike. I hope that you enjoyed the build as much as I did in building it. I will take a breather from W-40K for now, I have another project in the works over at papermodelers, my "Limber and Caisson" build thread. My horses are chomping at the bit to finish the thread.

See you all here and over there. God bless and until the next posting.:wave::wave:
