I love freshwater ore boats but i haven't found a single one. I want the Edward L. Ryerson but any freshwater freighters will do. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Some.

There is a thread you might be interested in here - Great Lakes 1000 Footers. I contacted Belliom and he sent me copies of his OSL lines models. I've built one (turned out okay) and have made some adjustments to a couple pieces and will be rebuilding it soon. I've not yet built the ones by MegaMoonLiner but they are comparable. The problem I have with these is they're too small - 1:700 and 1:1000 I think. I'd like to do one with more detail.
Other than the Edmund Fitzgerald (JSC) I've never found any commercial kits either.

That's the one I want to plan, too.
However, I have no time right now, but after the next month or probably a bit sooner, I can laid the project on. :thumb:

They're called Lakers (not the basketball team hehe). As the bridge is at the front (bow) of the ship not the stern.

You may want to check out this site. Great Lakes Modeling Association

They don't do paper models specifically but they do have plans that you can work from. Plus the wood versions of the models aren't that dissimilar from paper only in material.

The specific ship you want to build looks much like this one. The Wilfred Sykes. Plans of which can be purchased here Detroit Historical Society Store (Plans Catalog)

WMV has a similar boat, as used on the Rhine: the Franz Haniel combination. See my site ww.zeistbouwplaten.nl, page Shipping / Merchant sh.

I am NOT a trend follower, but...I have a special interest in the Edmund Fitzgerald. The date was June, 1962, and the Fitz was passing upbound through the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie. I convinced my dad to take my picture in front of her, as she carried the (then) President's (JFK) middle name! Of course, the photo is in storage in Indiana (1200 miles away), so I can't get to it for a while...
