How thick did you laminate the pieces you are using the file on to round? I just recently started using a file, but haven't found too good a reason to give it a permanent place in my tool kit. Looks like now I have!! I wish Patroch has some Tau battle suits......

The edges were about the thickness of a Popsicle stick for a gentle curve and for a more dramatic curve about two Popsicle sticks. I did not cover the nose curvature but later when I join the wing support I will cover that part which is similar to the nose bump.

As for the files, I have the jewelers kit which have different sizes but the ones That I use most, are the round and the flat. Also another piece that you can use instead of the files, is medium and fine sandpaper strips. The sand paper sands faster than the files and the files smooths the sandpaper grain.:wave::wave:

The piranha is finished, I have to do the picture caption updates. These are the steps for the intakes. I laminated them 2X to give that thick edge look to the front.. The louvers were made individually and set in place. Colored the inside a gun metal.

Those things that I called scoop shields are actually the Engine support pods. I colored in the multiple Track looking things in the nose and re-done them into a double track cover.

022. The smooth curvature of the nose was done with a cellulose base Spackle compound and sanded lightly to flare out and get rid of the heavy lines at the junctions.

Will post the remainder of the photos soon as I do the captions. See you all soon.:wave::wave:

Continue on with more updates.

025. Patoroch has a single exhaust I made it into a split exhaust with a small strip separating the two.

026. Using a drill bit as a guide, rolled a small strip around it and then squeezed it to form a oval and placed the side exchangers on the engine unit.

027. The exhangers are on and you can see the split exhaust. The front gatling gun is also ready for placement.

028-029-039. The wings are laminated instead of folded like in the instructions. The lamination gives it more strength. When the glue has set, I sanded the leading edge with fine sandpaper and then use the file to
fine tune the edge. The wings are formed with a center cor and the outside skin is glued to another template and notches are placed on the outside skin to simulate the anchor points for the drone gun platform. This is it for now. More pictures to follow. See you all later.:wave::wave:

Thank you Thunderchild.

The ship is finished and the captions are done. It is a matter of uploading the pictures now. The last five finished pictures are over at papermodelers but I will continue with the thread here.

031. The engine pods and wins are put together. You cans see the split exhaust, the oval side exhaust and the nose gatling. The gun turret was made the same procedure as in the Sentinel ball joint. The barrels again where made with tooth picks. You can also see the front leading edge of the wings are rounded.

032-033. The drone gun were made by laminating all the pieces to different thickness. This gives them more strength. The drone to gun attachment is also different from Patoroc's

More to come, see you all next posting.

034. Added some rear panel details.

035. The main three pieces of the Piranha. The round drone receiver are tight enough that the drones are held in place or you can glue them in. The base again is a series of round circles laminated together. with a paper stick as the elevation pylon.

034. There is a bottom ball turret retainer not in the plans but I scratched built one a bit different from the GW version.

Getting there to the finals.

040. Making the engine pod support arms. Placed a heavy card stock strip and bent it to the approximate shape of the curve.

041-42. The Spackle compound is placed at the joints and folded and smoothed in with the fingers.

Stay tune for the final photos.:wave::wave:

The last pic and the credit. I hope that you have enjoyed this series. I will take a breather and time to catch up with my Caisson and Limber over at papermodelers. This little skimmer gave me some good info on how to make those compound curves. See you all next posting.

Marine Bike

Here is a scratched built bike. I do not have the schematics since I built it as I went along. This is a beta build and I just wanted to see how it would come out. It is a tad big for warhammer but not by much. I am pleased as to how it came out. Enjoy and one to the next project.:wave::wave:

Those are both brilliant builds silver. The bike particularly, for being scratch-made. I really like how the treads worked out!

I have a question with the skimmer; Do the side guns detach/rotate? I don't know much about the Tau, but they look a lot like the little scout units, almost as though intended to house them.

 Wow. This looks amazing.

I love this stuff :)

Matzieg and Purify: Thanks for your comments, I am glad that you like the models.

Tirick: On my model the side/drone guns do come off and can be place in a rotation sequence if desired. The semi-circle in the wings is tight enough to hold the drones in place. I assume that with constant use, they would expand and you would have to glue the drone guns in place.

As for the bike, It was a quirk to build it to see how it would come out. Since it came out alright, I am brainstorming and idea to make a Spacemarine jet bike.

Excellent work as always!! The Tau skimmer is brilliant and I never would have thought of using Spackle. I was honestly waiting to see how you were going to pull that one off.....

The Spackle was a light bulb going off. This Spackle is a little different in that it has a cellulose base, does not shrink or crack and dries hard. It comes in real handy for hiding holes and rough edges.

Silveroxide,
You dropped my jaw with the scratch built bike and the tau vehicle! I was try to figure out a way to make a space marine jet bike to, I was going to use the white scar theme on them.

Keep up the amazing work!:thumb:

What can I say more - "Excellent work as always". I want this bike in scale 1:1 ;D

Thanks for the comments guys. Here is a teaser of my next project, the Space Marine jet bike. It is almost finished, it needs the handle bars, and armament, I am leaning towards twin heavy bolters.

Space Marines certainly need a jetbike to catch those varmint Eldar with!

Seriously, cool concept, but is it predicated with GW lore, or just active imagination?
