1969 Camaro Z28 RS 1/12 scale model

Here is a long term project I have been working on for a few weeks, a 1969 Camaro Z28 rally sport, my all time favorite car. The plan with this one is to make it fairly detailed with individual body panels, an engine with opening hood, an interior, finished trunk with opening trunk lid, and a frame structure. I will light it all up when finished with led's, I have been designing with that in mind so there will be light boxes to put the led's in to seal them up with no bleeding to other areas for the headlights, taillights, interior dome, dash, etc. All will be powered by 2 9volt batteries which will be stored in the trunk behind two removable side panels. I have a fairly good start on the main bits so far, It should be fairly detailed while not be insanely difficult to build. Probably be in 1/12th scale, possibly 1/24th if it's not too difficult too build.

Thanks Mchale.:thumb:

Here is a small update, I got the interior shell done up last night and the battery compartment in the trunk. After finishing the interior shell I realised I had a good amount of dead space right behind the rear seat I could use for the compartment rather than putting them on the sides which would have been a tight fit. In the pic you can see that it is just a flat plane which will be laminated onto thicker stock with a tab installed at the bottom so it can be removed and replaced easily. Next step is to make up the dash and center console.

hello im a new member. im looking forward to see u build this model.

Thanks hvp, I'm looking forward to building it. I will more than likely share the plans when it's done, I usually do. It probably won't be for a while yet though.

Here's tonight's progress. Got the seats made up and started on making up some seatbelts, I think for the front I'll do the harness over the shoulder type seat belt. Gonna try to get the rest of them and the dash done up tomorrow.

hey what software r u using???

Hey hvp, I'm using 3dsMax.

Big project you got there. Love the idea and the car. Keep it going and don't let it die. :)

Thanks valdurv, it is a big project, but I'm confident I can pull it off. :thumb:

Made some pretty good progress on this last night. For the tires I made up some treads that will be cut out and layered onto the tires for a nice effect, gonna be tedious for most to cut all of them out but I am lucky enough to have a wife who allowed me to get a Craftrobo cutter

The wheels are styled like the newer Camaro wheels. I made up some of the original style wheels but wasn't happy with them, I'll probably try them again another day( I want a couple different parts to have multiple options or styles). I made the spindles so they can be glued turned at angle so you can see the treads, if the builder chooses. Gettin there, but still lots left to do.

Let's try this again. Made a post earlier but I either previewed and forgot to submit or something happened with the post, I don't know.

Anyway, here is where I'm at with the model. The main body shell is done except for the tail light parts. Front clip is done except for the front grille assembly, which I am working on getting together now. Interior is textured and ready to unfold, wheels are ready to unfold, and the engine is ready to unfold as well. So far it hasn't been an extremely difficult model to build, the builder just needs to ensure parts are built and assembled in the correct order due to the fact some areas are inaccessible after some parts are attached.

Oh man, it's even the right year, '69!! Thanks for posting this beauty!!

I tried using some liquid electrical tape on cardboard, and it made a really nice coating. I thought it has potential for rubber looking tires, and hoses. Also, 9 Volt Wall Warts (AC to DC wall plugs) are really cheap. You might want to consider a jack to plug the car in, when displaying, and a battery for when your on the road, showing her off. I have never seen a car made like this. Infreakincredible! :thumb:
