Hi guys. Well, i have two friends over on PM.COM making this new release of the Yamaha VMAX - so that's two threads over there, they are both making the model incorporating different techniques. I am giving this to you as it comes, no re-scale or re-colouring. I will be posting the pictures for this build commencing later today {camera willing - a few tech problems, but should be able to get you something worth looking at} please don't expect this to be a day by day account, i am currently building a WWII Diorama and other projects along the way, but i hope to keep you up to date in a reasonable time scale. First thoughts looking at the task ahead of me are  and hope it concludes with a  So wish me luck - 500 parts to go, or so i am told. Enjoy

So here we go.... The Engine. This is a 1679cc V - 4 cylinder. Here are the first steps. Make all components for Bank 1 {2 Cylinders per bank) After completing the parts, and tidying them up, make bank 1 - do the same for bank 2. {these are the steps for sheets 1 and 2 in the model. Here's bank 1. More up dates when i can.

I have the Yamaha cycles in my hard drive, but the amount of parts and fiddly little parts to include the ink to produce them, has held me back from attempting them. From the threads I have seen, the parts fit good and the instructions are excellent. Waiting to see more.

When you've done that Pete you can come and sort out my VF750, it's another V four and run's just as well as a paper one.Get that running and I can sell it to some other poor s.... fortunate collector. Looking good mate!.

I like that there are multiple threads. It offers a chance to get more "beta" feedback for the rest of the community.

Cheers guys, thanks for the remarks so far, gives me motivation for this build, and what a Motorbike - she is gorgeous in the extreme  and the model is rather good too :thumb: i have now completed Sheet #1 and #2 {or engine #1 and #2 is what it says on the instruction sheets} Engine #3 and #4 i have cut and scored ready to build. So far, all parts used { 78 total thus far } have posed no problems, a tad fiddly on the smaller parts of the OHC's, but this is nothing compared to what i have seen coming up... Stay tuned, will update when possible.

Right... here's where i am at now with this build. Reached section 8 {engine #8} Just one thing to draw your attention to - the instructions give allocation to 2 part numbers which do not exist... The parts exist, not the number - They are as follows: Part referred to as "a95" on sheet 5 is "a96" and on sheet 6 the part referred to as "a85" is "a86". I have made all the parts in these sections, but haven't fitted them yet. All parts made thus far fit well, and have a nice feel and look to them. Will up-date more a.s.a.p.

Hey Peter, I've found you here! Those are some very fine photographs.

Yes, there are lots of errors in the assembly diagrams, though so far they have been pretty minor. In that "Engine 5" diagram, not only are the parts mislabelled, but A-85 (which should be A-86) is drawn as the long square-ended A-83, not the shorter skew-ended A-86. In fact the diagram and photo are simply mirrored versions of the "Engine 3" ones, except that in the photograph they have carefully photoshopped out the red dot on the front edge!

Keep it up, it's coming along grand.

Hi Alan. Thanks for you kind comment - means a lot. Yes there are a few things on the plans that are like you say just mirrored images, and they nearly get away with it. But to anyone else reading this, don't let us put you off, these really are only minor issues, and in no-way hinders the build - just common sense get's it done :thumb:

Howdy folks. Ok, so the build continues... I am now up to section 16 { Engine #16 on sheet 11 } Something else to mention here... a part of the parts sequence is wrong for section 11 { Engine #11 - sheet 09 } Sequence from 5 - 6 - 7 Change the sequence so that 5 {old 6} 6 {old 7} 7 {old 5}, i hope that's easy to understand - in short, there sequence would put A-133 on top of A-137 to 144, when indeed it is underneath them. So far so good guys, and if i was giving an award to the most awkward to make piece of the model so far, it would have to go to part # A-169 {Engine #16 - sheet 11}, but very pleased it came out o'k. Still a lot to build on the engine yet, but very enjoyable :thumb: More up-dates a.s.a.p.

This is really looking good Peter! If it weren't for the pm cube in the second picture and the Craft-It bottle in the third one, I'd be tempted to believe they were the real mccoy. Looking forward to more!

Peter, how long has this build thread be going on? I always miss out on the good, exciting threads like this (I need to get around more).

You're doing an incredible job. The intricacies of the kit are apparent in the photos (500 parts?!), and all those engine parts lying about gives the impression of someone's garage floor, vice a model work bench! ;)

Hope the back gets better, hate to see it slow you down on this and the dio build...

VMAX engine complete !

Hi guys. Well, the VMAX engine is now complete  Total parts including INTAKE = 216. The next stage will be the FRAME. I am taking a break from this build for a short while to catch up with another build i am doing... WWII Diorama, i am building Gary Pilsworth's Short Stirling which is going to be a part of the dio :thumb: Right here's a few points to mention regards the VMAX: There is a part that hasn't got a number printed on it, but the part number is A-189 { Sheet 12 - Engine assembly } and part # A-172 is actually part # A-126 { Sheet 12 - Engine assembly } A caution on placement of parts B-12 and B-13 of the INTAKE { Sheet 13 - Intake Assembly } the parts have a LONGER section after the glue area, would be very easy to get these the wrong way round - look closely at the diagram and make sure they are the right way round. All in all, this was very nice to build, and at this scale, she will make a very nice sized model when complete. So here's the pictures - Enjoy. Back to this build very soon

PS. You may have noticed that the KICK STAND hasn't been fitted - the reason for this is that the part is very delicate and would be knocked about a lot during the rest of the build - It will be the LAST part to be fitted.

Outstanding Mr. Taft! Like the actual engine it models, your build is a true work of engineering art. Take pride sir, and look forward to the Stirling.

Nice job Pete as usual. Look forward to more on this build and the Stirling as well.Oh and as we have them here you can have one of these

A well-deserved award - congratulations! The fit and finish of your work is really a pleasure to behold. Again, if it weren't for the scale cube I could be convinced this was an engine straight from the factory. Either that or........how did you make that scale cube so big?!? :p

Great stuff Peter - puts mine to shame. I think I'll go and hide...

There are quite a few errors in the assembly diagrams - I have noted down 11 so far, though all pretty minor. To be fair, A-189 IS labelled, but next to it on the parts sheet, rather than on the part itself.

When you mentioned "the Stirling" I thought you might mean a Stirling engine (interesting), or maybe a Stirling Single (very interesting), but no, it's an airy planey thing. Oh well, everyone to his own...
