warhammer Land Rider

Just started this....

I have to say that FlareBaffled is to blame for this kind of thing since he started doing the Baneblade and the Leman Russ tank.sign1
Hopefully I'll manage to finish the Land Rider

first thing to do is the tracks module, cutting he parts from the side view that are not part of the shape.

The 3D shape extruded out of the side view is rather simple but with a good texture should do the job

After a few minutes in Photoshop and mixing both a metal texture and the base view we get the texture for the track module.

To give the illusion of a 3d surface I used drop shadow and Emboss on layers of the side view.

Also the markings have been removed to allow customisation of the Land Rider later on.I'm planning on making several base colors available then allowing textures to be modified.
Also I will provide the textures I used

And finally my first test build.
I started with the prototype white texture before actually printing the grey metal version

I used 3 layer of the metal texture to create the different parts of the side, by using 1mm card board.
It seems to work well, even if the final result is not as good as I expected.....

Starting the tracks but so far I got no good picture of one.
the central part of the Land Rider will be complicated as well, so far I found no decent top view of one. If anybody has one, please post it!!!

Looking good on the land raider. I am waiting to see more, especially the tracks

actually it was just crazyness....
here is more progress on the model

Could not find a good picture of one of the individual links so i created one in photoshop and made copies of it in a A4 page

Also added a few more details to the top part of the model and corrected the textures

tracks are done....
individual links work fine but take way too much time to do so i opted for a solution that works just as well, the individual links will only be necessary for the round angles, straight lines will have the links grouped in photoshop.

on the pictures you can see both tests

I placed the baneblade for scale on that last picture

So far i've done around 6 test models and changed the texture 8 times so the models don't look very well assembled

a screenshot of the progress in papekura and the new sheet with the tracks rearranged in photoshop

The model is rather easy to build, it takes more or less 1 hour to finish

Next, the guns!

So it it takes only one hour to build! You don;t know some of the guys around here. They (myself include) will take the model apart and add other items to it. Build the side and panels up. Scratch built bolters, cannons, turrets. Sponson cannons. Turn the vehicle into a pointy porcupine Chaos Land Raider. You have given us the basic form, we can work from there. Thanks for the build thread and waiting to see the final results.

By the way, I posted my Imperial thunderbolt over at DakkaDakka and had some good reviews. When you get done, post it over there and blow their minds away with paper.

It looks awesome!!! I want one! I've always liked the newer land raider over the old ones. And your work is fantastic!

I had to add my encouragement! This is fantastic! I generally paint my models, regardless of the printed color, so do you think you'll be making a "plain" untextured version as well? Interestingly, I started robo-izing the files for a land raider just last night, but it doesn't seem to have really captured the feel the way that this one looks to be doing. I'll be standing by. ;-D

Finally found a picture from the top view.....and the elements size was all wrong.
I made a test build for the previous elemets and it was way to large on the central element so it's back to design stage.

Also the parts where reversed in papekura so I had to invert them in the 3d software to get them right

Now i'll probably have to remap the elements and do another test build.
Compared to the size of the Baneblade it's overall size was a bit too big
so that will have to change as well

Got a bit discouraged when I saw that had to start over....wall1

Good news it that the textures are ok and can still be used
Pictures of the corrected model follow

Wow, I go away for a few months and I come back to this. Very cool! Definitely keeping an eye on this one. Will you be making it available for the public when it's finished?
