Good morning.
It's a pleasant 61 here and most cloudy. The high will be around 77 and it will be partly cloudy. A lake wind advisory is in affect for this afternoon.
White caps were rolling on the lake yesterday and some nut was out there trying to get some fishing done. He finally gave up. The gravel work is done! My neighbor (niece's boyfriend) showed up yesterday afternoon accompanied by a big burly friend and they got the shovel work done quick considering the gravel had to be moved about an 1/8th of a mile. They then set the felt paper on top of the gravel like I wanted it done. I'll be buying him a couple of 12 packs of his favorite beer this weekend. That's the least I can do. I called the old boy with the track hoe and left a message that I was ready to have the ditches filled in. That's a major project completed. Got to go see the foot doc today so he can poke and prod my feet a bit. After that I'll be going to the post office to send a loco back to a friend who sent it to me to have some work done on it. The requested work was done in less than an hour and I replaced a few broken items I found in it as well. No way was I sending him back a broken loco even though it arrived here that way. He was pleasantly surprised that it was done so quickly. Got the Amtrak 85' observation car stripped yesterday and repainted primer gray. Next thing to do on it will be to cut the holes for the sliding doors to fit into and mount the rails for the doors to mount on. The doors won't actually slide but they'll appear to be able to do so.

In other news, the guy who dug the ditches for my sewage drain field showed up while I was at the doctor's office and filled the ditches in. He did a really good job. There are no little piles lying around here or there but rather it was all smoothed over and compacted. I'll be recommending him to others for sure. Didn't get any work done on the observation car yesterday. I was just too tired. I don't know why but I was extremely tired for most of the day but also extremely restless. I tried to get some rest but try as I might I couldn't get any sleep. It was almost as if I had an IV loaded with caffeine going on a slow drip while in a semi conscious state. I'll try and get back to the observation car today. It's laying here in front of me in many pieces. So is an engine house I got from another modeler. Don't know exactly what I'll be doing with it yet.

Haven't done anything worthwhile lately. Too many house projects to contend with. Have a sprinkler valve that has to be repaced - leaking enough to flood the low spot in the yard. Have the water shut off, but now have to wait for it to dry out enough to stand on it. Of course the low spot is right where the sprinkler valves are located. If no rain for a couple days it should dry out rather quickly.

Got some work done on the observation car yesterday. I thought about what to use to cover the windows besides aluminum foil without it looking tacky when the answer was staring me in the face the whole time. It's a Rivarossi car. It has a plastic surround that serves as window glass as well as holding the roof on. It was a simple matter to paint this surround in varying shades of gray, black and rust so that when it's in place the windows look as if metal panels were welded on the inside. Here's a photo showing how it looks.
This way I don't have to worry about any external panels (or internal for that matter) being broken off due to handling, falls, etc .

Jeffrey - Your getting quite good with the camera. Those auto's and the MKT tank car need a little weathering. Looks too "off the shelf" if you know what I mean.
Got to head to the HD or the Pipe and Supply store this morning. I pulled the two troublesome sprinkler valves apart yesterday afternoon. Thought maybe they might have had some trash in them that would not let them seat, but, they still leaked when pressure was put back on them. I think I can get away with replacing the diapharm, I hope so. I sure don't want to replace the entire valve.
Sir James -- have to water here, otherwise, won't have any grass .. just desert weeds. Without water, lawn goes back to sagebrush, tumbleweeds, and ragweed. Besides, this dumb a$$ homeowners association would be all over me like a swat team.

Didn't get much done on the layout yesterday. I was out looking for a tool to remove the spindles in the bathroom faucets without much success. The local hardware store is ordering a few sets of them though. They;ll have them in a week from Monday. Guess I'll have to put up with leaky washers for a little while longer. Replacing the fixture is out of the question. To access the back of it the kitchen cabinet must be dismantled and the water heater moved and that ain't happening. Today I will probably be working on the observation car again. I still have to drill out the broken pins that held the trucks on and tap the holes for screws. Not a project to be taken lightly with even slightly shaky hands.

I was planning on going to town yesterday but discovered my car had a flat tire. I removed it and looked for a hole. No dice. Even after inflating it I couldn't find a hole. I'm going to take it to the tire place in town and have them find it. Once they find the hole a quick plug will take care of that. I suspect that it's probably a rock cut. That's a fairly common occurrence in this area. I got the broken pins drilled out on the observation car and only have to set the screws in place and inject epoxy in around them and wait for it to set. Then I'll remove the screws and I should have two pre-tapped holes.

I have been watching the weather posts' from all.
While you are trying to stay warm, I have been trying to repair lawn sprinklers (annual maintainance) and baby-sitting my daughter's 7-8 month old boxer. What a handful it has been. I already have two dogs, so they have taken over. I am packing my bag .. anyone have a spare bedroon?

While you are trying to stay warm, I have been trying to repair lawn sprinklers (annual maintainance) and baby-sitting my daughter's 7-8 month old boxer. What a handful it has been. I already have two dogs, so they have taken over. I am packing my bag .. anyone have a spare bedroon?
