Outstanding! I don't think there is any other model out there (paper, plastic or otherwise) that does this ship justice like this one. Truly a work of art!

OK, so it looks like there is some important text on the first page of the model. I see "9mm", which may be the recommended diameter of the wooden dowel used in the model. Can anybody get a translation of this?

9mm would prolly be the OUTside diameter, according to my experiments. so you are going to need something closer to eight if you want the parts to fit. I strongly suggest you cut out a practice piece before purchasing your dowel.

Can one of the moderators PLEASE shut down two/merge the three threads we seem to have going for this? It's pointless repitition and makes it difficult to know where to post.

STOP POSTING LINKS TO UHU02's MODELS HE DOES NOT WANT PEOPLE TO LINK TO HIS SITE!!!!

Understood, but I can't find it on SS42 and I can't find any "Iron Man link." Can somebody please tell me in plain, unencoded English how to get the model? wall1

Could he maybe post it on somebody else's site? Isn't that what we have a download section for? With all due respect, there has to be an easier way to do this. Have pity on those of us who are somewhat technically challenged.

It looks like the Iron man link has gone. I'm not quite sure of the etiquette of this - is it OK to show a link to the page rather than the files? To be safe I suggest Google "uhu02 Discovery", go to a page with his name its address, edit the page address in the address box at the top of your internet window to reduce it to ...spot/ and you should get to the front page with photos of his wonderful models - the big D is just a little further down the page.

UHU02 (All hail!) only puts up his models for a short period. Is it ethical to PM the old files to those who request them at no charge?

Anyway I'm slowly doing his pod at work but I just got to start the D at home. Got an 8.5mm wooden dowel and wrapped the spine pieces around it using 80gm paper. I had about an 0.5mm gap but the rings appear to just fit.

I see from his page - no link by request - that a few issues are cropping up but I'll be doing the rings for a while yet. Could anyone supply details of any issues raised please?

This is not a link, but it should help you find his blog main page (hint: use google or cut and paste this after the http stuff):

The Discovery model is available from the two most recent entries in his blog, seen as about 25 separate pages or links to pdf files. Be sure to snag the page 13x fix from the most recent entry. You don't need to understand Japanese to get these pages...I just checked and they're still there. Hope this helps. If you get it, don't just collect it on the HD. Build it and send photos. That's my plan. This is officially my next build project on top of a veritable mountain of models "to-be-built".

While I try to respect people's wishes about limiting connectivity, I really don't understand it. This is the internet after all and once you post something freely, you effectively surrender control of it in terms of who can link to your site. One could always password protect it and closely guard the pw, or just sell it. That would limit the spread somewhat. I really appreciate his work and his generosity, and I understand the desire to protect copyrighted effort, but I don't get all the need for secrecy, or for shouting.

;( ! I could not find my bookmark to his site. Just Googled his handle and there it was. I'd swear, people have never heard of using a search engine.

It's about respecting UHU02's work and generosity.

He does want to limit the spread because of piracy issues.

If we do not respect his desire, he will pull his blog and work again and all lose out on some great, creative and free models.

The shouting is because people are not listening and following the wishes of the model designer nor the direction of the owners and moderators of this forum.

So.... Discussions about propriety aside, here's an actual modeling question. Since there are no calibration marks on the pages, is there any guidance as to what size paper this should be printed out on? 8.5x11? A4?

Also, does he state anywhere what the scale is?

The PDF pages are in DIN A4, so I assume it should be printed 1:1 on that papersize.
