The Mighty TIRPITZ wip

For me BB's rank the highest on the food chain and that especially goes for the Bismark Class. Tirpitz sported B and X turrets in pale grey to stand out, making her to appear to only have two turrets, the deck was camo as your's is. The Battleship fired her main battery on only one occasion against an enemy target, and this was during a bombardment of Spitzbergen in September 1943. The British penetrated her Altenfjord anchorage w/midget subs in the same month. Heavily damaged, she was patched up. She was then attacked by British carrier aircraft. Bombs too small to inflict vital damage, surrounded by nets, Tripitz could not be torpedoed. British Bomber Command took over the attack and flying from North Russia, Lancasters was able to finish her w/the heaviest bombs in their inventory. She was hit five times with 5.45 ton bombs. That makes her one tough nut to crack. Speaks highly of the workmanship that went into the planning and building of this Battleship. She went down with 1200 men on board, though I do not know how many perished. Keep posting those build photo's.
Hi there friend. Would love to see her in 1/200 in this form.

Don't say things like that your talking to a man that enlarged a 9" model Titanic to over 3' and has thoughts of even bigger! last thing he needs is more ideas! sign1 Its big enough Pete and you have no room, NO ROOM!
Looking great Mate :thumb:

Ayup my old mate... You know what ? i think the 6 foot version of the Titanic is on the back burner for now  because i have this Tirpitz straining my eyes and i really need some new glasses before i buy another model to make {i quite fancy the HMS Hood} but i am still having alot of pleasure building this one. Looking forward to rigging her up. Regards. Your old friend Pete.

The Mighty Tirpitz Continued

Hi everyone. Well time hasn't been one of the things that i have had much of lately hence the slow build of this beautiful Battleship... but here's the job thus far - since the last pictures i've added the 10.5cm and 15cm turrets + the Lifeboats. There's still quite alot to do yet, but getting there. Regards. Pete.

Hi there Mick. Glad you like the build so far. I wish i had those two things my friend because the eyes are straining {need new glasses} but the fingers aren't too bad. I had a look at the H.M.S Repulse and she's similar to the Hood so i'm torn between the two of which to buy next. I've also got to save enough pennies to take the TITANIC a step further {a full hull version - and scaleable to 6 feet} I might need someone to give me the push for one of these... So what would you personally like to see my friend 1} The H.M.S HOOD 2} The H.M.S REPULSE or 3} A very large R.M.S TITANIC ? Regards Pete

She's looking like an ace build for sure!!

-Ski
Cheers Ski. Slow but sure and still enjoying the build - she's a great model to build and well worth every penny spent - Just how many hobbies can you actually get TIME to VALUE for the money ? these kits give so much pleasure and so much time you start to forget the cash outlay... and who cares how much a model costs when you get great detail like these chaps give you in there designs ? HATS OFF to the DESIGNERS. Regards. Pete :thumb:

Next!

Hi ya Pete me old Mucker:wave: well I think out of the choices you've given it would have to be I think...HMS Warspite!, yep a real fighter right up to the end and even committed suicide rather than be scrapped. Hood went out fighting the Bismarck Repulse was just left to the mercy of the Japanese aircraft along with the Prince of Wales. I would say the Titanic would be a nice treat for your good lady but at 6' I'm not sure if she would see it that way. sign1 Of course should you build the HMS Warspite and find her a bit in the way ,well I'm sure I could look after her for you.
Have fun with the Tirpitz my friend then worry about the next one later...HMS Warspite!!!. Phil :thumb:

Pete, as much as i like the Repulse, i have to agree with Gixergs, the Warspite is my favourite ship of all time, and i would love to see what you could do with a model of her. That would be a very welcome treat:thumb:.All the best mate.

I worked with a guy who's Grandfather had a very nice teak panelled study thanks to the HMS Warspite, dark Cornish nights and a row boat!.

Warspite eh ! I say Warspite... H.M.S Warspite Um!!!!

Well, well, well ! it seems you two guys have a crush on a Warspite between you ! I must admit she's a fine looking old girl - I think Airfix had this in there lists {which seem to be making a come back ?} If it will make you both very happy and content i will buy this and put up another thread with a WIP. I think J.S.C do this one and in the same scale has the Tirpitz and around the same price {i will have a look} and let you know when i get it delivered and will start to build it when the Tirpitz is finished. I'm sure i will enjoy building her. Ok Phil and Mick take care. Your old mate Pete.

I don't know about JSC but Halinski i think they are did a 1/200 and a 1/300 scale kit full hull. I know not a thing about the 200 scale but the 1/300 was a lovely kit I managed to get the hull, superstructure and forward turret done on her in a matter of a few weeks in order to show my Father, I binned it the same day as he passed away without finishing it. Thanks to http://www.marcle.co.uk/cataloguehome.html some years ago I managed to get it again but have never had the heart to build her, keep looking but never cutting shame to have her go to waste, she's in the post to you now enjoy me old mate

Airfix do a kit of her and of her predecessor HMS Iron Duke. Airfix were bought by Hornby who also own Corgi and have been going from strength to strength although who knows what will happen in the current climate.
all the best me old mate Phil.
