Good morning.

It's 50 and very cloudy. The high today should be in the mid 60's and there's a chance of rain. What else is new.

Got six loads of gravel moved yesterday and felt like I'd been hit by a 18 wheeler after the last load. There's still about 15 feet of ditch yet to be graveled. Not much chance of doing it today as rain is moving in to rain on my parade once again. Oh well, a little bit at a time and I'll get it done. Going to have to get my foot checked. It's looking like it's swelling up again. Don't know if it's the Charcot acting up or if I broke it again. On the other hand it could be another infection starting. That would be about my luck. Internet connection has been like a flag during hurricane season this morning. Up, down, up, down.

It's a beautiful day outside. Finally, a day with no rain. We have had about a week of solid off/on rain. A dry day is welcome. My wife is dragging me out to see some movies today. She is into the Oscar thing, so I have to humor her this time of year. She and her two sisters plus some friends all have a contest each year on who can gess the winners of the different catagories of the movies and actors. My brother-in-law and I usually win, even though we don't see but a small portion of the movies.sign1

Looks like it's gonna be a very nice day today. Cold at the moment, but supposed to warm up nicely. Project today is to get the framework built for a 42"x66" fold up legs for a Lionel train to run on. Got to give the grandkids something to do and keep them outta my On30 project. Maybe it will work.

Hi guys. About my absence of late: I landed in the local hospital with a cellulites infection in my right leg caused by, as my doctor says, doing heavy work (shoveling and hauling gravel) that I shouldn't be doing. I had noticed last Friday that I had ripped my foot open a little. So apparently had something else which wasted no time in making itself right at home and was halfway up my lower leg before I noticed it. Unlike others I can't feel pain in my legs until it gets above the knees. I know people who wish they could live without leg pain. I tell them to be very careful about what they wish for. They might get something they hadn't counted on.

Good morning. It's 44 with lots of sunshine but don't worry. It'll get back to normal as there's a chance of rain today. The high should be around 65.

It's nice to be back home. That hospital got very boring after the first 5 minutes and it was nearly impossible to get anything resembling rest with nurses and attendants coming and going at all hours of the day and night. Yeah, glad to be out of that place. As for the gravel moving operation, I'm not touching it with a 10 foot pole! My father is talking about working out something with my nieces boyfriend to get some of his friends together and get the rest of it done. Beer and hamburgers will be made available AFTER the work is done. As for filling the ditch in, that's left to the guy who dug it. He'll bring his track hoe in and fill it in in a couple of hours at no charge.

Sorry to hear about your absence Jeffrey. Hope that you get back to normal, or as normal as you can with your feet. I relate to a post that you made several days ago - that you were not going to try and do the shoveling work, then you go out and almosr do yourself in. Hope U get feeling better. Thought something must be up with you missing a few days here.
Looks like another nice day here. Trying to get my garage moved around a little so I can make some sawdust.

Hello:wave:
I've got a question and I need help. I'm buying the ashland steel from walthers.
What I need to no is I'm getting the coke oven but their also saying to make it bigger to add the coke retort.
My question is are they the same or not .I know what the coke ovens are used for but what would the retort be used for at a steel mill?
The coke retort came out with the gas company where does walthers want this to come in to play at the steel mill :confused::confused:

Right off hand I don't see any reason for a coke retort at a steel mill, though I don't know much about how steel is made. From what I can see at the Walther's site there are 6 kits in the Ashland Steel Mill set that are made to go together and the coke retort isn't one of them. These 6 kits altogether come to almost $900.

Good morning.

It's 46 and clear. The high will be around 60 and it will be partly cloudy.

Started work on a AHM/Rivarossi Amtrak 85' flat end observation car. Unfortunately both truck retainer pins snapped off while I was trying to remove the trucks. I'll have to drill out the holes and tap them for screws. The car will be stripped, the molded on diaphragm will be cut off and the car will be repainted for MoW service. I'm thinking about fitting a couple of sliding doors into the sides of it. In other layout related work I've started work on correcting some faults on the Freezee Ice Cream shop. Whoever put it together put the side entry doors in backward with the external detail facing the inside of the structure. It wasn't easy but I got the doors off with little breakage. I'll have to do some filing and sanding but I believe I can get the structure back into serviceable condition. I couldn't find any usable info online about this kit, things like who made it, when was it made, etc. I think these two items should be enough of a challenge for now. I'm still recovering from my hospital stay.

Good morning.

It's 38 and clear. Expect the high to be around 70. It will be partly cloudy.

Got the AHM/Rivarossi observation car apart and ready for stripping. I haven't decided yet on the type of doors to fit into the sides of the car. Boxcar doors would be too high. Maybe a couple of cobbled together sliding doors made of sheet metal on tube steel frames. The windows will be covered. I figure some pieces of aluminum foil glued in place over them will make it look like sheets of thin steel were welded over them. I got a little work done on the ice cream shop. After some filing and sanding I got one of the side doors set back into the wall properly. One down, two to go. The disassembled engine house will soon be getting some attention as well.

Good morning.

It's 57 and mostly cloudy. The high will be around the mid 70's and it will be mostly cloudy.

Today I'll be back into the work of moving gravel but with a very notable difference. One of my neighbors will be doing all the shovel work and I'll be doing the driving. Progress on converting the 85' observation car to MoW service continues. I've picked out a pair of doors for it. Now I have to cut the openings to set them over. After that I'll be putting pieces of painted aluminum foil over the windows so they'll look like steel sheets were welded over them.
