USS Sulaco / Aliens

I ve started this thread because Im working at the 3D model of legendary ship TheUSS Sulaco from Aliens movie right now.
It is a reaction to the questionnaire at my pages

What would you like to build from sci-fi theme as a next papercraft?
you can find it here -> http://blueboard.cz/anketa_0.php?id=761017

And the winner is Uss Sulaco followed by the endoskeleton.:thumb:

anyway..

I must build it competely from zero.
The 3d model from D.Proctor´s long lost Movie Mesh site is looking good, but there are some major differences between the 3d model and the prop photos from the movie. Second thing is that the Derrins 3d model is completely unuseful for unfolding.wall1
...but I still have it for dimensional reference..

21.1.2009

Starting with top structure of the front part of the ship....By the reference pictures it is more rounded than the D.Proctor´s model

The reference photos ale not too clear...damn....Must see the whole bonus material from Quadrilogy:curse:

by the way...the progress in those 10days is impessive because I worked on it 8 hours per day...

 WHOAH that is incredible. I guess I shouldn't be so surprised though, all your work on the site is quite impressive. The other models, especially the dropships are very awesome!!:thumb::thumb:

Are you independently wealthy? How can you spend so much time on these? God bless you for all the hard work you do.

jawdropperhaps inclusive a dropship in the same scale? or the other way - the Sulaco in the same scale like the "Hadley´s Hope" stuff (1/148)

...
I hope you get this one done soon...
...

NO, NO! Take your time, Jan! a good model is nothing without a good unfold and a good texture! And you know this! All your models are more than COOL

Jan .... If I may be so bold in asking.

Would it be possible to design internal formers for thick card for your new 'larger' bodied works much like ship models have for the hull?

ps. Can't wait to see more CG. :D

yahoooo !!!
wonderfull ! Your models of dropship was the first model i done when i really start paper models. I choose it for his colour so "real"(it's very important for me)... and the movie (of course).
I wait since this time, watching on your site from times to times if you start or no your project.
Good job !! and thank you

hello again :thumb:

at first some reactions

Stev0: the model have no skelet but dont worry, i´m designing it as a cubic blocks. So If u glue them together , they will make a a skelet by their own.

D-WHALE: I´ve done some calculations about the scale...If the dropship will be included ....interesting numbers appear....

first is your way: same scale as the colony 1:148(1:150)
look at the sulaco lenght:eek:...the dropship is taken from the colony btw.
scale1.jpg

second step is...everything in a half....so ..next is 1:300 scale..half scale of the colony.....dropship can be scaled down from the colony scale wthout loosing some details
scale2.jpg

last and possible way is the 1:600 scale. uss Sulaco is in suitable scale now...but must rebuild the dropship....6 centimeters is not much.wall1
scale3.jpg

that´for the reactions today:cool:
...now for the progress:twisted:

i´ve completed the top railgun...it was really hard work

rendered image is the best :thumb:

OMFG! I've been away for a few days then then THIS! I may have just joined the ranks of the incontinent crowd.

Jan I'm a HUGE longtime fan of your work (the EEV was my first paper model EVER, and I was instantly hooked). This is some incredibly impressive work. I will definitely be building it (I already have the other version on my TBL [to-build-list], but was awaiting the detail panelling/texture revisions).

I'm like a kid in a candy store! Keep it up.
