This is just a thread to show off my latest excursion into kitbashing Star Trek models. This particular model is a re-imagined Enterprise, by designer MadKoiFish from the SciFi-Meshes community. His thread can be found at http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/3d-wips/40400-another-re-imagined-enterprise.html (you need an account to view images in their threads).

Anyway, this whole project started as backlash against the new design they just released for the new movie, because I think it looks hideous, and decided to build a model of what I thought should be the new Enterprise. I don't mind it getting an update, I just want it to not look so...terrible.

Here are images of the model by MadKoiFish

And here are the pictures of my model, which was designed using a 1701-A model (shown next to it). I'm incredibly happy with it personally, especially the bussard ramscoops, which I thought would turn out terrible in paper. I was so happy with them I coated them with Future floor wax to give them a little extra sheen.

Nice, but why the wept-back pylons? At least the new design kept them straight. Swept back pylons are, to me, too new a design feature for a ship from before TOS(one of the reasons I didn't like the NX-01 design for a pre-TOS ship). In any case, I love the design! Can I download this somewhere?

(btw, I think the new design is sweet in the trailer)

I like what you've done with the design. perhaps a bit more conservative than official version, and definatly more like I would have thought. Still, the departure isn't as great as say, the enterprise D was for me. I still don't like that design, though it has become iconic.

Like I said, it wasn't designed by me. Personally, I like the swept-back pylons, I think they fit the way they are. Don't worry, its not the only re-imagined version of her I'll be doing. There's the Gabe Koerner design (the one that circulated the net for awhile that everyone thought was the one in the movie), and then there's a very classy touch-up of the original design by another SciFi-Meshes designer named Vektor. It stays incredibly true to the original, while still updating it in some regards.

As for download, I wish I could offer it to you all, but at the moment, I feel like I need permission from the designers of the two models I used, as well as the concept modeller's permission, before I'm comfortable with distribution.

You WON'T get it. I have been on that forum for years. MadKoiFish went berserk over a design a while back that a few people commented on in true Diva fashion. He 'quit' the forum but came back.

He's good at what he does but if I was an employer, I would not have him in my production studio because his attitude would just cause problems.

Gabe Koerner was *flattered* that modelers on SSM were willing to make masters of his ship and sell them(this his permission, of course), so it should be no problem to obtain his permission to distribute his ship in card for free. Personally, I like that one better than the TOS version or the new movie version.

Too bad the modeler of your ship is highly unlikely to offer his consent to distribute that model, though.

Ok, I'm dredging up this thread to post images of another re-imagined Enterprise model I built, this one a very class retouch of the Constitution class by Vektor, of Sci-Fi Meshes.

This is actually the first time in awhile I've built a model outside of the 1:1900 scale for Star Trek. These first few pictures are the ship at full size:

The indented nacelles were a somewhat custom job, the model doesn't include pieces for that the way I've designed it, but I thought it was a good touch. Basically I just came back, after building the nacelles, and traced the grill heavily with an appropriately sized blunt tool.

I also built a model in my standard 1:1900 scale, to add to my fleet.

As you can see, I indented the nacelle grills on this one too.

And here it is compared with the TOS version:

The large model and small model together:

And finally, here she is with the other five versions of the Constitution class. Half of them, including her, are non-canon.

Yes, for those interested, I do plan to make the model available on my website.

Also, sorry for having to re-post, I accidentally deleted the first one.
