Why?

Since returning to N Scale as my primary scale I find myself more relax but,in a complete different mode.I haven't added sun visors, plows,mu hoses or uncoupling bars to my HO Athearn locos yet,I find I want to add those details to my Atlas locomotives.I have body mounted couplers on several cars something I would have never done in the 80s!

Why the modeling change? I don't consider myself a so called "rivet counter" or even "detailist"..I just don't understand the mode change.

The new short line/terminal road I am planing may be no more then a "paper" railroad owned by NS and CSX since I like both roads-another freelance railroad first..

This railroad will be located in Columbus and will work the industries on the South side of the city even though the industries will be genetic because of the limited space. If memory serves there was a lot of large industries that was located along the old NYC.

Who says age doesn't bring wisdom? Just because it took you this long to learn to do it right doesn't mean it's a bad thing! :p ;) sign1

Still highly unusual for me especially in N.sign1

As of now I am still going with the upgraded plan you did on page 2 of that thread...

Model Railroading is a versatile hobby. You can do what you want,
be as picky as you want,or not, be as detailed as you want, or not, think about trains, take pictures, build models or just be an arm chair modeler.
What ever feels the best or works the best for you "DO IT".

The south side of Columbus is still fun to kick around in - some industry is still there and "shells" of many more lay undeveloped. All in all it has lots of "character".

Let me know if I can help with photos.

Matt,Its been long while since I visited my old stomping grounds..I do recall the NYC SW7s or the rare GP7 assign to that local.

I seem to recall Marion Rd parallel these industries from Parsons to(I believe) Fairwwood.

Any information you can pass along will be deeply appreciated.

Hmm. I'll have to poke around down there. I'm familiar with the N&W and old HV / C&O just south and east of there, but not so much with the NYC.

Matt,That will be NYC track to Thurston,Hobson and into Charleston.

Squid,That would be correct it was also a industry holding yard.If you look to the East you will see the NYC/N&W crossing at Bannon..This is where the NYC and later PC interchange cars with the N&W..It was not usual to see complete N&W coal trains handed to the NYC and later PC.Today NS owns the former NYC track..

As you can see Columbus was loaded with railroads..

Needless to say when I was a kid I visited all of those yards..I rode a bicycle..sign1

Looks like NYC had a small interchange yard there along Refugee Road (judging from this 1948 railroad map of Columbus.

Not much there nowadays.

Squidbait, thanks for the link - I was looking for maps prior to responding last night and had forgotten about the rails and trails site.

.Today NS owns the former NYC track..

A couple observations:

Brakie, a while back I believe we may have exchanged photos of the T&OC depots in Columbus and Bucyrus. I was following the NYC around on maps.google and came across the depot again, so thought of you.

Second, while following the NYC up to the depot I came across the dual truss bridges (CSX and NS) over the Scioto that I occasionally drive by. The (rusty) bridge on the right is NS. If not for Brakies comment about the NS owning the NYC through here, I would have guessed that the ownership was reversed - casual observation of the two railroads in other places has usually shown the CSX to be kept in a more "tattered' condition than the NS.

Matt,Let's turn back the clock..Here is a NYC train approaching the Scioto bridge(South side)..The track in the foreground is C&O(exHV).

This was taken North of the Greenlawn Ave bridge..The train in the back ground is a C&O(exHV trackage) The old HV Mound St yard is to the North just beyond the W.Whittier St crossing.Note the steam locomotive tender for the steam wrecker..

That alignment hasn't changed over the years, though the right of way *looks* better now... (especially the NS / NYC side!)

Nice pictures, did you take these? If so, what year?

Matt,I took those pictures in '62.Those were 2 of my favorite railfanning spots. The C&O was the busiest of the two.

I surprise to hear NS has kept the double main..
