Some Progress Shots

Well this may not look like much as far as progress, but i can assure you that it IS alot of progress lol. Building these 2 parts is prolly the most annoying part of the whole build..... lol. Its not that its difficult in any way, rather simply, just doing the same parts 30 times over gets a little old pretty quick lol. Or having the glue the 64 caps on the pipes or the 28 valve wheels in place..... LOL

anyways, its all done now, i can finally start the fun parts of these kits..... the TOWERS and piping

Heres a couple pics, i also cut the base on one of them so that when there on the layout in the final loacation/home, i can connect them easyly without the base being in the way

Progress

When i was building the piping and tall stacks when i realized that the main fractioning tower was different from the main fractioning tower on the deluxe kit. i realized this when the piping didnt fit together correctly lol. i had switched the towers out after i had some trouble painting with the spray can and the paint was nearly frozen over night due to leaving it out all night, and i carelessly started to use the can without thinking the next morning   lol. The paint did not cover well at all and dripped everywhere and ran everywhere lol

Thats when i decided i would just build 4 more towers from one of the other kits and use them for the deluxe build not knowing that they were un fact different.... I did this because the ones that i had painted with the bad can of paint looked really bad and i even tried sanding them down a bit but i had put the paint on so thick that it wasnt doing much lol. i was also getting very fursterated with this as well which wasnt helping much lol. i set them aside and let them completly dry for a few days before stripping them and re-painting them. i also left the paint in the sun to warm back up lol. Well it wasnt that big of a deal as i thought it would be when i realized i had made the mistake... I was able to pull them apart without damaging the parts luckly, small amounts of glue prooves to be a good thing lol

In the end, the first refinery kit i posted wont be the deluxe one, it will be connected to the other one, and the one im about to post will be the new deluxe one. Nothing is really diferent in the kits besides the fact that the deluxe one has a couple different piping configurations and the brass handrails....

heres a couple pics of the recent progress:

Finished with one of the Refinerys

I just got finished with one of the refinery's. This one will be attached to the other refinery and the Deluxe refinery will be in front or to the side of these 2

Heres some pics with the platforms, and railings in place:

You better straighten out those ladders! the prototype is mounted straight up!

hehehehe no you dont, just send it my way

Oh, i do all my own work, lol! Would i really being a hobbyist if i let other people do it all for me?

Technically, now that i have my airbrush working, i could start building it. I just wish i had those brass railings.

I'm currently on a journey of insanity, because i decided to start work on my Central of New Jersey wooden caboose, and it did not come with handrails. I've been cutting sections of thin brass wire and using CA to glue things together. I even glued together my own ladder. I think some screws came loose in my head and let some of the marbles out... and i still have to do the other end!

However, i If i can survive that, i might try and make my own handrails from the wire for my refinery.

LMAO, i was going off the box, they show the ladders bent at an angle too.... on the deluxe one, they have ladders with safety cadges around them, so they will all be straight....

LMAO i was suggesting you just send the refinery to me so i could build it and use it with my other 3 refinery's hehehehe

sign1I dont know if making the brass handrails would be an easy task, all the platforms ive done look pretty complicated if you would want to scratch build handrails for them lol. but nothing is impossible right?

Only one looked like it was really leaning!

Yeah, i was figuring i am going to have to make my own safety cages to. I actually have some spare from my Waltheres Plastic Pellet transfer, but i don't know if that will bee enough, or if it will look right, so i'll just make that out of wire, shouldn't be hard.

No way in... well, you get the picture! i payed to much for this, and i've wanted a refinery for too long. its in my long term plans

how complicated could it be? You just need to make a curved wire, and some stanchions, and use a little CA or solder to glue it together? its probably just a bit more tedious then simply gluing those thick plastic pieces on.

lol or you could get the safety cadge ladder kit that Walthers has.....

sign1 how much you pay for it and when did you get yours?

Yeah, but its a bit clunky. I'm sure its fine, but i think wire would do a better job.

I got mine when they re ran them this time last year. It was probably close to the full price. before then, i hadn't found the kit, and i never really looked on Ebay for it.

lol i guess your right

Yeah, i'm a patient man. I will eventually build the thing to amazingness.
