Really bashed vehicles.

I don't remember if I'v shown my wrecked cars here before or not. These are 1/64 cars (S scale) I'm building to do a junk yard. I just bought a BUNCH more & will show one in progress. The finished ones were done about 20 years ago & now I'm going to do enough to build a diorama of the kind of yard we used to be able to play in about 40 years ago -- remember them?? Here we go.

Because these were built so many years ago no one made a Cord sedan at that time-- this one was made of 2 VW front halves spliced back to back & the rest made from aluminum disposable baking tins , the tan sedan was also a VW to start. The model A pickup started life as a sedan delivery.

I had not looked at 1/64 cars for years & recently had a friend tell me that there were so many more being made that I could really expand the number of cars enough to make a really fantastic diorama ------ Sooooooooo -- I went looking . WAS HE RIGHT!! I'm glad I don't have a wife to ask where 300 bucks went last weekend!!:rolleyes:
This is a few of what I now have to wreck!! sign1
It's not going to be easy to mutilate some of these --they are so darn nice!! Not to worry tho , it will take a long time & I have duplicates of many so I can keep one to pass on to my granddaughters!!

Also here are some pics of one under the "torch" --the crumpled panels are first duplicated in the aluminum baking tin , the the real part is cut off & the new one put on & crumpled . Most of the cars you buy have aftermarket type wheels that were not around 40 years ago so I have to make more stock looking wheels , I Use trim washers & round headed nails , see what you think of that.

Well ,with a signature like yours , you of all people should understand demolishing something like this Merc. I'll do a few others first just to get warmed up to something like this --- I've got a 53 Oldsmobile & a 55 Pontiac by the same maker that are just as nice-- then there's the Yat Ming models -- you ever seen them ? WOW--- Nice!

Hence the laughter at the end of my post. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to your "demo" work.

Maybe instead of a resident of the yard, it could be parked out front as the restored vehicle of a customer of the yard that's standing next to it, discussing some old parts he's just purchased from the yard for the restoration.

Sounds like a good idea---EXCEPT if I don't have a 54 Merc IN the yard how did he buy any parts for one?
Don't fret it will be quite a while before I work my way down to a sweet car like this Merc of the other stablemates by the same maker.
Here are a few of the ones I plan to work on ( & am working on) before the Merc gets it.

The blue truck Hot wheels calls a customized 40 ford .
Take a look at the pictures I found when I searched for Hudson Trucks --because thats what the truck reminded me of. Notice that the 51 hudson is at a NEW car showing -- It was a production model!! Looks like a homemade jobbie doesn't it --- guess the El Camino & Ranchero wern't so "new" after all , Studebaker made a coupe pickup in 1937 --slick looking rig too. Then take a look at the work in progress on the " 40 ford custom".

Progress pictures.

I've been asked to post progress pics on the junkyard. I did a few last night, today here is a couple of grills I made. The one in the pickup I made with the spatter screen I showed on another thread last night. I soldered the grill surround to the screen, then with a dremel cut out the verticle strands of the screen , leaving only the horizontal ones for the grill. The 40 grill was made of an aluminum tube with slits cut in in with a .006 thick cut off disk.
Remember these are JUNK cars so it's OK for the grills to not be perfect.
The Truck before the grill job.

Dave, you don't need to have a Merc in the yard for the guy to find parts for it. The mechanical parts would be the same as a Ford. I think the Merc might have had a bigger engine, but that would be strictly internal, externally the flathead would be identical. I can't remember if Ford was still using the flathead in 1954 or if that was the year they came out with the "y-block." In the case of the original y-block, I think Ford and Mercury would have used identical engines except for the script on the valve covers.
